NEWS, RESOURCES AND LEARNING FOR PANTHER STAFF, 10/2/17
Keep Up the Read-a-Thon Energy
We're making steady progress in our Read-a-Thon Fundraiser. We have currently raised a gross amount of $24,084.90. Go to Updates to keep up with funds raised to date. Please encourage your students/parents to participate in Read-A-Thon. We are short of our $55,000 mark and that money pays for teacher supplements, cultural arts, hospitality, among other things!! Several handouts will be sent home to encourage parents to help. Please send these handouts home in a timely manner, whether or not it goes home in a folder on Tuesday.

Global Hightlights
Hats off to the Global Committee for their organization of the student global kickoff. Assembly really inspired the students. Can't say enough about the PUE Global School song written by Peggy Freer and performed by the chorus. Please share our how your students did on the follow up activities and how you are continuing to reach out to your assigned continents and/or other areas of global interest.
Deck Out Your Participate School Contest: The organization that provides support for our professional development courses and curriculum is encouraging all global school to enter the Deck Out Your Participate School Contest. How can you creatively use the global items that Heather passed out on Friday in conjunction with the global activities that you are doing? Check out the ways you can win at Participate Contest. Contest lasts until Friday, October 13.
Announcements for the week of October 2, 2017-October 6, 2017
PLT minutes—Thanks for all teams that have been posting their minutes in the PLT folder within the PUE Master folder. Most folks are all up to date posting but if you haven’t posted your minutes please do so ASAP. We appreciate your assigning this role for each meeting. The discussions, proposed actions and questions are important to our school.
Thanks again to Annette Hymel for the great PD about how to use Skype to enhance and differentiate and expand student learning. As Annette shared, Skype docs and sites have been posted in the PUE Master Folder in the Technology/Media folder. Please let us know in the office when you are having a Skype experience so that if schedules align we can join you in your experience.
Great to see all the classes that have begun and are actively using DreamBox. This is a valuable resource that should be used at least 5 times per week by each student to provide formative data to you as to student progress. “How to” links. We will be having a DreamBox webinar this fall to help staff with using the tool. Be thinking of questions that you would like to have answered. I am sure the Dreambox trainers will be sharing any new features, too.
Seesaw-We are in the process of finalizing our renewal of Seesaw for 2017-18. We were in hopes that WCPSS would continue to pay for this but this did not happen so is coming out of our school budget. The renewal will include grades K-4. At this point 4th grade should be the transition grade from Seesaw to Google folders and in 4th Grade Google Sites. More PD will be provided this fall so that we can transition from “Portfolio Warehouses” where we have students and teachers post activities to one which we transition to having students use rubrics to determine what items are more “showcase” in nature—activities that represent what students and staff are the best example of a concept. These would be items that would be shared at a conference exemplifying standards. Some grade levels have already expressed an interest in using Seesaw as part of a Student Led conference.
Be sure to complete the necessary North Carolina State Health Care Plan Enrollment information by October 31st. If you have questions please refer to Kaye Person’s recent email.
A BIG Thanks to our PTA for continuing to support us with appreciation luncheons prior to our professional development. Leftovers are in the lounge refrigerator.
Duties: Please remember to sign out/let the office know if you are leaving early. Staff should stay on campus until after the last bus is called. If you have a duty, please let the office know who will do it for you if you are not here. It takes less time to find coverage if there is a need if we know what is going on up front.
Assemblies: We will have two assemblies on Wednesday Morning. Please see the email sent on Thursday, September 28th, for details.
PDPs: PDPs should be completed. IF you have not completed your PDP, please see the email sent on Thursday, September 28th for details. We will check the system on Monday afternoon to check off each employee. If you need help, please see Mr. Biles or Ms. Fricke
Elvis has Left the Building! Mr. Biles is taking a brief vacation this week. So, he will not be checking his email on a regular basis. If you need something that can’t wait, please see the office staff and we will contact him. Otherwise, see Ms. Fricke or the office staff if you need assistance.
Leadership Meeting: There will not be a leadership meeting this Thursday, October 5th. Quarterly Data will not be ready by that time. However, if you have something you would like to discuss, please come by the office conference room that morning.
