What's on Your Summer Reading List? Rise to the Challenge!
Statewide Read-In
On April 11, the Crayton Readers Union participated in South Carolina's Statewide Read-In. According to the students, "It was a blast!" Students met with friends from the Crayton Read 180 classes, marched from the State Library to the State House, and watched a presentation on the importance of reading. As usual, Cocky and the Clemson Tiger were there. "Cocky was my favorite," said one student. Over 1000 students from across South Carolina came to express a love for reading.
iPads Are a Hit in All Curriculum Areas
This year, Mrs. Feeman's math classes reinforced core skills by playing math tutorial games on the iPads. The iPads are a big hit with teachers and students, especially when the media center and computer lab computers are reserved. Using the tablets to access the internet and using educational apps has added a new dimension to math skill reinforcement lessons. All curriculum areas have made use of the iPads since they arrived last summer. Students love them! Some of the skill building programs that were all too familar to students in the past suddenly became interesting again when accessed with an iPad. In addition to teaching the core curriculum skills, we have exposed our students to one more form of technology, as we try to make them as technology savvy as possible.
Are You a Super Reader?
Each quarter we recognize our top readers in each grade level by checking Accelerated Reader points. The top six readers per grade level are recognized throughout the school, and they receive gift vouchers to spend at the school store. In addition to recognizing students for points accumulated, we tabulate the number of words read. If you are not a member of our one, two, three, four, or even our five million word club, you should be! All it takes is a little time to read, and a little time to take your AR quizzes. Remember--if you don't take the quizzes, we cannot track what you have read or recognize you in a fair and just manner.
