The 4 PLC Questions
What do we want our students to learn?
How will we know if our students are learning?
How will we respond when students do not learn?
How will we enrich and extend the learning for students who are proficient?
Team Lead / Instructional Leadership Team Meeting Notes
NOTES 8/19
-
Distinctions, comparison schools, and quadrants were discussed.
Dr. Tamika Taylor praised MJH teachers for the excellent job they are doing. She also gave her recommendations on the PLC process. Our homework is to:
- Set student goals and track them all year - "I can" statements are a great way to use kid friendly language - my challenge is for this to be a campus wide expectation!
- Teacher led PD as on ongoing cycle - based on instructional needs, admin walkthroughs, and data. This is going to be such an amazing asset to the 5 day PLC structure!
Discussed quadrants. Our lowest performers are ELL and SPED.
When planning think about what we want students to learn and how to reteach if needed.
Discussed what instruction should look like when moving students from meets to masters. Approaches to meets, etc.
Agenda 8/26
II. Bring copies of student "I Can" tracker
Discuss on going cycle of PD.
Discuss Open House
9/6 Agenda (During PLC)
Dr. Taylor will meet with teams to discuss "I Can" charts and student tracking.
Agenda 9/9
Be ready to report on the questions I gave to you to discuss with your teams.
Discussion Questions for Team Meeting during staff development week.
- Cover Lesson plans – Core content submit to your administrator by Monday at 8am. (Create a Google Folder?) Electives submit lesson plans to appraiser.
- Review/discuss your Unit Plan and its role with SLOs.
- Discuss your grading policy for your PLC/Team.
- What is your re-test policy?
- Curriculum alignment – What is the differentiation between level and Pre AP?
- Talk about key instructional practices for your department. (Kagan, Reader’s Workshop, Writer’s workshop, Sheltered Instruction, ESL Strategies, etc)
- Discuss importance of students knowing their individual STAAR Scores/setting goals. Individual folders?
- What are your going to do different in the curriculum to improve overall scores? To improve sub-groups’ performance?
Dr. Taylor will be back in our PLC on Sept. 6. She will be sample "I Can" docs. We should have ours ready as well.
Meet Kala!
Ms. Kala Ganapathy is our Communities in Schools campus liaison. What is CIS?
Communities In Schools of East Texas. Inc. surrounds students with a community of support,
empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our evidence-based approach,
adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the key our success.
What is the Communities In Schools Model?
The Communities In Schools (CIS) of East Texas. Inc . affiliate and CIS site coordinator leverage partnerships to connect students and families with community resources, tailoring them to their specific needs. Within the school
the CIS Model is implemented in the following steps:
1. Needs Assessment
Using school and community data, stakeholder interviews and surveys and identified school priorities, CIS will conduct a needs assessment in collaboration with school staff to determine the priority needs for the community and student populations that the CIS site coordinator can address.
2. Annual Support Planning
The CIS site coordinator, working with the identified School Support Team, will develop a School Support Plan outlining all goals and planned supports for the school year. Supports are tied directly to the needs identified in the needs assessment, have clear objectives and measurable outcomes and processes for evaluating effectiveness and making necessary adjustments.
3. Three Tiers of Support
The CIS Model includes three tiers of support:
● Tier I Support : Widely available services designed to foster a positive school climate and address school-level risk factors.
● Tier II Support : Targeted services typically provided in a group setting to students with a common need.
● Tier III Support : Intensive, individualized services typically provided in a one-on-one setting to students with highly specific needs.
4. Monitoring and Adjustment of Services
A key component of the CIS Model is that all supports, both school-wide and individual, are monitored to determine effectiveness and adjusted as necessary. This process is completed as part of on-going reporting and coordination with school staff and leadership.
5. Evaluation
The support provided by CIS is evaluated regularly based on program goals for the outcomes for the school and individual students. These evaluations will help to demonstrate results and determine what resources are needed to meet desired outcomes.
What is the role of a CIS site coordinator?
The CIS site coordinator is responsible for executing the CIS School Support Plan and meeting the needs of the student population, aligning with the priorities of school leadership. The site coordinator works inside the school with principals, teachers and other student support personnel to forge community partnerships that bring resources into the school to help remove barriers to learning.

Something Inspirational
If we expect kids to be losers they will be losers; if we expect them to be winners they will be winners. They rise or fall to the level of expectation of those around them, especially their parents and teachers.
