BCIU MOBILE FAB LAB ROLLS INTO CR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS FOR STEAM LESSONS
An extra dose of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) education rolled into Council Rock elementary schools this week thanks to the BCIU Mobile Fab Lab. With visits to select grade levels at all ten CR elementary schools, students enjoyed hands-on interdisciplinary STEAM lessons. The lab itself is a van that transports several carts full of equipment such as 3D printers, a laser engraver, CNC router, vinyl cutter, and a variety of robotics equipment. The Fab Lab also has laptop computers with specialized software programs to control and interact with the equipment. A designated Fab Lab Program Coordinator accompanies the van and works with students, providing age-appropriate curricula that supports 21st-century learning. One of only 50 in the United States, the Mobile Fab Lab is designed to inspire and encourage students to pursue careers in STEAM.
