Organizing Your Learning Space - A Message from Mrs. Hoover

Advocating for yourself - Organizing your Workspace!

Please see the message that was sent to our students.

Hello Spartans,

I hope your Friday is off to a great start! I want to take some time to remind you about the themes of our Spartan Student Success Series and talk about this week's theme!

Week #1: Celebrations - We celebrated our Spartans!

Week #2: Engagement - We discussed how you can be engaged by turning on your camera, participating in teacher-directed chats, and joining Google Meets on time.

Week #3: Organization - We shared ideas about organizing your Canvas page and reminded you to check Skyward and Canvas on a regular basis.

Week #4: Advocate of Yourself - This week Mrs. Hoover already shared about organizing your learning space at home. You can watch her message here if you have not had a chance to see it. Now here are two new tips to help you advocate for yourself:

- You can email your teacher when you have questions or need extra help. Check out this message from Mrs. Eck about emailing your teachers.

- You can set a timer or alarm to make sure you are arriving to your classes on time. Click here to access an online alarm. You can also access a clock app on your chromebook. If you do not see the app, you can go into Google Play and install the app that way.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!!

SEL Lesson Update

In December, the SEL lessons at the middle school level will cover self-awareness, regulation and connection. Specifically, the lessons will discuss belonging, including and accepting others, how to deal with social isolation and being kind online, which is important all of the time, and even more so with COVID. Additionally, the SEL lessons will cover managing and regulating emotions so we can work to choose joy. These lessons are timely and will hopefully be a support through COVID.

PHM Vacancies

Please help us increase the size of our non-certified applicant pool. The link below will take you to the HR page in Frontline for all current PHM vacancies. Please encourage people you know who would be a great fit for our Schmucker community to apply. Thanks!

Checking Grades & Report Cards

Parents, when you are checking on your child's grade, please be sure to check Skyward. Canvas does not always have all the assignments and assessments listed. For the most accurate grades, Skyward is best. Remember you can always email your child's teachers if you have any questions.

The grades you see on the Classes screen are “live” from the teacher's grade book and will typically match what you see on the report card. At the end of each marking period, the grades are finalized and then the Report Card is shown on Skyward.

School Counselor Supports

All students are enrolled in a course named "Class of (Graduation Year)" in Canvas and Skyward. This is not an in-person class, but counselors will use this course in Canvas, as well as emails to parents and students, to communicate important information and availability for counseling services. Students can contact their counselor individually by using the School Counselor Appointment Request Form under the Guidance tab on the Schmucker website. Parents can contact counselors via email or school voicemail.
