Magazine Sale Incentive Day
On Tuesday, October 16th, Tamanend celebrated its annual Magazine Sale Incentive Day. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our amazing students who sold magazine orders and cookie dough to help our school! Your fundraising efforts are truly appreciated! Students who sold at least 12 orders were treated to a limousine ride and a special lunch at the Dairy Queen in Doylestown. In addition, students who sold 5 orders or more spent the end of their school day at our BINGO party! They had so much fun and the prizes were awesome!
Parent Conferences
In middle school, parents/guardians may request a conference with a teacher at any time. During the month of November, grade-level teams set aside specific times for conferences. Please see details below for each grade level. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's team leader should you have any questions regarding parent conferences.
7th Grade November Parent Conferences
Legacy Team Leader: MRS. LISA MANCINI lmancini@cbsd.org
Journey Team Leader: MS. MARIA VITACCO mvitacco@cbsd.org
The 7th Grade official conference day is November 9, although some conferences will be scheduled as early as November 1. It is important that students join the conferences so that their insights and questions are heard. For middle school conferences, teachers might contact parents/guardians to schedule, or parents/guardians may request a conference. If you would like a conference to discuss your student’s progress in school, please email your student’s team leader to schedule a time to meet. If teachers do not request a conference, and you do not have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, then a conference is not necessary at this time. However, if at any time throughout the year you have questions or concerns, please contact us so that we can work together to ensure your student’s success.
8th Grade November Parent Conferences
Polaris Team Leader: MRS. DANIELLE MAGLIOZZO dmagliozzo@cbsd.org
Journey Team Leader: MS. SUSAN ROTH sroth@cbsd.org
The 8th Grade conference dates are November 9 and November 20, and the 8th Grade teams will email parents/guardians to request conferences. We ask that students attend any scheduled conferences so they can be a part of the discussion. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please email your child’s team leader.
9th Grade November Parent Conferences
Freshmen Team Leaders: MRS. ANGELA CORSINO lcorsino@cbsd.org & MRS. LORI MARANO lmarano@cbsd.org
The 9th Grade conference day is scheduled for November 9, 2018 from 12:00 until 3:00. For 9th Grade conferences, teachers might contact parents/guardians to schedule, or parents/guardians may request a conference. To schedule conferences, you will receive an email with details on how to sign up for a conference time that is convenient for you. If teachers do not request a conference, and you do not have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, then a conference is not necessary at this time.

Reminder--Ryan's Story--Anti-Bullying & Suicide Prevention Assembly and Evening Parent Program
Tamanend Middle School takes proactive steps to curb bullying, problem that is found in schools everywhere. We have recruited Mr. John Halligan to conduct a presentation on October 25, 2018 for our students. He will relay his own tragic experience as a Dad whose 13 year old son took his own life in 2003, after incessant bullying by peers since the 5th grade, both in school and online. Mr. Halligan further shares that Ryan wrestled with underlying mental health issues and depression and that these factors contributed to Ryan’s vulnerability and ultimate suicide. His story is riveting and powerful, and reminds students that there is a face, a person, a heart, on the other end of the screen.
His presentation will begin with a short video collection of home movie clips and still
pictures of Ryan. John will then begin to tell the story of Ryan and the factors that led up
to his son’s suicide. The students will gain a perspective from inside a family of a child
who is a victim of bullying and cyber bullying. They will also gain awareness about the
signs and risk of teenage suicide and how best to help a friend. As part of Mr. Halligan’s
presentation, students will have the chance to ask him questions. We encourage you to visit a website named for his son: http://www.ryanpatrickhalligan.org/ for more information. In addition, we will hold a parent presentation by Mr. Hannigan at Klinger Middle School in Southampton on October 25, 2018 at 7:00 PM. This parent presentation is open to all Klinger Middle School and Tamanend Middle School parents.
Reminder--Help Us Recognize Veterans in our Community
As Veterans Day approaches, Tamanend Middle School would like to honor those who have served our country. On Monday, November 12th we will hold our Veterans Day Assembly. We would like this presentation to be meaningful not just for our students, but also for local veterans in our community. As such, if you have the email addresses of friends or family who have served in the armed forces who may be interested in joining us that morning, please send this information to Jeff Klein (jklein@cbsd.org) by November 1st. Thank you.
October's Featured Teacher--Mrs. Hein
Mrs. Hein, Tamanend’s FCS Teacher, has been teaching for 5 years (4 years at Tamanend) and loves to work with her students. She has taught grades 7-12. Mrs. Hein’s hobbies include cooking, traveling, and reading. Mrs. Hein is married and has three daughters plus two dogs and three cats! Mrs. Hein’s favorite places to travel are to Italy, France and Hersey Park. Her favorite food is pasta and her favorite color is purple. If your favorite genre of music is pop, you have something in common with Mrs. Hein! Mrs. Hein loves the book series Shopaholics. When Mrs. Hein retires, she can see herself living somewhere warm and next to a beach. Well that’s it for this month’s Feature Teacher!

Reminder--The Next Meeting of the Tamanend Parent Book Club is November 7
Join us for the Tamanend Parent Book Club. This year, we will be reading Raising Kids to Thrive (2015) by Kenneth R. Ginsburg, MD. The book describes "the Lighthouse Parenting Strategy" in which parents balance unconditional love and high expectations with the goal of raising resilient and happy children. This book club will follow a "no-pressure" format in which the facilitator will present a summary of the chapter and open the floor for discussion. We will share resources and ideas with the goal of helping the entire Tamanend parent community navigate the challenges of raising adolescents.
Meetings are held at 6:30 in the Tamanend Library

Please email Dr. Brian Caughie at bcaughie@cbsd.org if you are interested in participating.

Upcoming Musical Auditions
Tamanend Players will be holding auditions for this year’s musical in November. In order to find out all you need to know, including dance moves, lines, songs, and important dates, plan to stay after school until 4:15 on MONDAY, OCTOBER 29. Students with Fall sports conflicts on that day should plan to see Mrs. Reitz in Consult on Tuesday, October 30. Curious about which show we’re going to perform this year? Stay tuned for an exciting announcement soon!
8th Grade Field Trip--November 13
The 8th Grade will be traveling to historic Philadelphia on November 13th! The central mission of the trip is to have students explore the brand new Museum of the American Revolution. There, they will learn about the battles and people of the Revolution from trained staff, touch a piece of the last living Liberty Tree, smell the tea dumped into the Boston Harbor, and experience the smoke and confusion of a Revolutionary Battlefield. Students will then explore the city, make speeches at Independence Hall, Christ’s Church and Franklin Court. If time allows, they will stop at the Liberty Bell, The President’s House, or that pretzel truck on Arch Street, not to mention grab a cheese steak from a food truck! Permission slip information was sent out earlier this week by your child’s Social Studies teacher. We're excited for a great trip!
Successful Blood Drive
The Tamanend Community Service Club partnered with the American Red Cross for a successful blood drive! We collected 31 pints of blood, saving the lives of 93 people. Thank you to everyone who took the time to donate.
