March in the Library
Check out what we've been up to in the PHS Media Center!
Working Together
March has been a great month for collaboration! Mrs. Seibel, our nurse, helped to organize reading materials to celebrate EatRight Rhode Island. Kindergartners have visited the library to participate in Reader's Theater. We have some very expressive young voices at Primrose!
In addition, many teachers have brought their classes in to co-teach lessons using the computers. First grade classes are working on creating digital timelines of American symbols. Second grade classes are sharing what they've learned about influential individuals by making Vokis. Third grade classes have been working hard to improve their comfort with many digital skills, like scrolling, clicking-and-dragging, and, of course, typing.
I also got the chance to visit some classrooms this month during our "Library on a Cart" days. I love having a chance to take a peek at all of the creative and rigorous work going on across the whole building.

How We've Been Learning
During the month of March we:
- Participated in conversations about fiction and nonfiction texts. "Is Your Hair Made of Donuts" was a big hit!
- Generated note-taking guidelines to help us with our research.
- Published our learning using digital tools.
- Started learning about distinguished literature.
- Practiced identifying key details.
- Learned to identify different types of books.
- Started learning how to travel safely on the internet!
March Book Circulations: 2,393
Featured Resource: Novelist - Picture Book Extenders
Novelist is a Reader's Advisory resource provided by AskRI.org. The website provides an extensive database of Picture Book Extender activities for teachers and parents to use with their students.
Looking Ahead
The school year is flying by and April will be a short month. Next month I am looking forward to visiting Sowams for the 3rd grade district-wide Family Book Club. We also have Reading Week on the horizon with lots of fun activities in celebration of the books we love. On April 29th the PHS Library Media Center is going to be opening up during Primrose Hill's 60th birthday bash. I hope to see many members of our community come out to explore the past, present, and future of our library!
