First Week Complete
Dear Raider Nation,
The first week is done. Nice job everyone! More importantly, thank you for your flexibility and ability to adapt as we experienced the unscheduled evacuation on Thursday. There are several lessons learned from what transpired and a more clear directive as to what to do during a class change will be shared at our September faculty meeting. It will take a few weeks for a new motor to be installed so the temperature will be warm in the D-wing, sorry :-(.
This week will mark the 18th anniversary of 9/11. The Young Americans for Freedom club, to commemorate 9/11, will place flags along the school’s property. Additionally, we will observe a moment of silence during first period tomorrow morning. Please be prepared for my announcement on Wednesday.
I want to thank the social studies department for allowing the administration to have time to speak to students regarding expectations for the year. It is much better to engage with students in a classroom setting as opposed to a large and impersonal assembly. Having to endure multiple times the same story can be exhausting. So thank you again social studies teachers. I hope my amygdala story didn’t drive you crazy the tenth time you heard it (smile).
On another note, as I visited classrooms, it was nice to see on display the various community building activities. Please be reminded they should be on display as part of the community building atmosphere in your classroom. As a visitor, it was nice to engage with students about some of the things they included in their circles of self and their I AM FROM poems.
This week is our Senior Kickoff. It will take place on Thursday from 9:15 to 12:15. Seniors will attend their first and second periods and report back for their fifth and sixth periods. The kickoff will take place during third and fourth periods. It is mandatory for all seniors. We will be using three areas of the building – Media Center, Auditorium, and the Gym. Sam Richman will be in touch with each department impacted about usage. Thank you in advance.
Lastly, a huge thank you to Mr. Posner and the AHS Marching Band and Lt. Col. Reinhart and the JROTC program for their participation in New Student Orientation and Back To School Night. We are so fortunate at Atholton to have such outstanding programs that contribute to the overall student experience and such a talented staff to lead.
See you all tomorrow!
