Principal's Message
Happy New Year!
I want to extend my best wishes for a happy and healthy new year. I am excited to see all the children, teachers and staff back at school after a long, well-deserved break. Just a reminder that as the snow flies and the temperatures dip, children need to be dressed appropriately to come to school and to play at recess time. Coats, hats, mittens or gloves, and boots are a must this time of year. Additionally, should there be a snow delay or school cancellation, please watch your local news channels (KOB, KOAT, KRQE, FOX NM) for those messages. We also use School Messenger. We do not follow just one local district's lead, as we have students that come from as far as Albuquerque and Algodones and take all of that into consideration. The safety of our students, their families, and our staff is of utmost importance. We appreciate your understanding when it comes to these decisions.
On a negative note, I did need to inform our SABE family of a change in our staffing. Mrs. Guerrero, our PE teacher, has resigned from her position and will not be returning now in January. Due to a lack of budget for this year, I have decided to not rehire for this position for the second part of the school year. The classroom teachers will continue to provide the physical education program during the students' original PE time. We are saddened to lose Mrs. Guerrero but hope she can rejoin us in time. We are hoping that we can see an increase in our budget or receive funding from the NMPED for physical education to bring back this much-needed program in future years!
Please remember to keep your child home if they are sick. Please consult with Mrs. Almanza regarding the COVID protocols and when it is appropriate to send your child back to school. The requirements if your child is showing COVID symptoms is to either take a COVID PCR test and if it is negative, they can return to school, but it is highly recommended they wear a mask to keep others safe, or they can remain out for five days and wear a mask for an additional 5 days. Please see the link far below for testing locations. These tests are covered by health insurance.
Below is a link for a short parent survey. Please complete this survey as soon as possible so that we have parent input for our programs and priorities. This survey will close on Wednesday, January 11th.
At SABE we continue to strive to become a school focused on educational equity and find unique and innovative ways to partner, support and create opportunities that make our school a place where all children enjoy learning, develop strong relationships, and continue to grow each day socially, emotionally, and academically. As always, thank you for your continued support
Kind regards,
~Mrs. Rodriguez

Attendance
The attendance law changed in 2020 and now all absences, excused or unexcused, need to be reported. Our school has developed a tier system of support depending on the number of absences a student has. If you have received a letter from the school or you have questions, please contact Mrs. Reyes by calling the school office or sending a private ClassDojo message.
While these letters seem extreme, we are compelled to follow the law and again, we work with our families, and meeting to discuss a child's absences allows us to provide you resources and understand and provide support as necessary for excessive absences. At times, things are brought to light, like medical conditions or hurdles that we can assist with.
Thank you for all that you do to have your child in school!

Covid Information
Please DO NOT send your child to school if they are sick. Mrs. Almanza, our health assistant, will likely be calling you back to pick them up. While we do not require COVID tests to return to school, we do have to follow the state (NMDOH & NMPED) guidelines. In the event that your child shows COVID symptoms, you have the choice of keeping your child home for 5 days of isolation (no school) and can return to school with 5 additional days of wearing a mask, OR taking them for a PCR test. At this time, we are not If that test is negative, they can return to school. If it is positive, the requirements are 5 days of isolation and 5 additional days of wearing a mask, but they can come to school.
Below are some links provided by our NMDOH contact on where to locate PCR tests, especially for those with no health insurance.
We appreciate your support and understanding. If at any time you have questions, please contact Mrs. Almanza our school health assistant at 505-771-0555.
THANK YOU.
