Math- Mrs. Garcia/Mrs. Martinez
In third grade we have completed Unit 1. This year third grade Math is at a higher level of rigor. We are using Motivation Math and implementing the new TEKS implemented by the state of Texas.
The Second six weeks we will be working on Unit 02: Addition and Subtraction. Students have been building an understanding of why estimation is a valuable tool for everyday experiences. We use number lines and place value to round numbers to the nearest 10 or 100. In a word problem strategy student will determine an estimation strategy to use, rounding or compatible numbers.
We will then begin Unit 03: Building an Understanding of Multiplication.
ELAR- Ms. Koerth/Ms. Andreatta
In Reading we will begin Unit 2, "Discovery Other Literary Genres". Poetry, drama, biography, and autobiography provide the avenues for students to learn how to make inferences, draw conclusions, summarize, analyze characters, and provide textual evidence during their reading experiences.
Please remind students to bring their library books EVERY day. Also, completion of spelling homework is important for success on the test! Reading logs and spelling homework should be completed nightly and turned in on Fridays.

Social Studies- Ms. Andreatta/Ms. Koerth
For the second 6 weeks in Social Studies we will be learning about Human and Cultural Characteristics of Communities.
In unit 04, Human Characteristics of Communities, we will be learning about people, events and natural disasters that contributed most to influencing change in our communities.
For unit 05, we will be learning about Cultural Characteristics of Communities. Cultural characteristics are human characteristics of place, as much as roads and buildings are. Cultural characteristics include social structures, languages, belief systems, institutions, technology, art, foods, and traditions. Citizenship and the ways people and groups contribute to communities and make a difference are a part of the makeup of communities, including the local community.
