Eagle Camp - Northland Pines School District

This summer, NPSD will be offering a summer school program called Eagle Camp. Information was sent home earlier in the week with your child. If you need another permission slip or more information, please contact the ERES office or Mrs. Simac. We are all so excited about this great and FUN opportunity for our kids!

Field Trip - Adventure Mines

Don't forget that we are going on our field trip to Adventure Mines on Thursday, June 2nd! Make sure your child wears comfortable shoes (no flip flops or sandals) and comfortable clothing. It is cool in the mines, so it would be best to bring a jacket or sweatshirt. Also, make sure your child brings their lunch if they did not purchase one from school.

Next Tuesday morning (depending on the weather), we will be planting our pumpkin sprouts in the garden outside of our classroom window. Please make sure your child wears "play clothes" as they will be doing the gardening! I had sent an email earlier in the week asking if there were any volunteers to weed and water the garden throughout the summer. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with this. Thank you!

Dear Family Member:

This week our class will be discussing the meaning of teamwork. We will talk about how members of a team can work together.

Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing.

Word Workout

  • Words to Know: context clues You and your child will work together to make up a crossword puzzle using the vocabulary words.
  • Spelling/Phonics: syllabication—closed syllables You will read each word aloud. Your child will repeat the word and then write the word, leaving a space between the syllables.

Comprehension: author’s point of view

You and you child will read about how teamwork helps to make a newspaper. Together you will complete a chart reflecting the author’s opinion of each team member.

Envisions Math

We took our topic 11 test this week and topic 12 practice pages also went home. Your child is learning about concepts related to time. He or she is or will be telling time to the nearest half hour, quarter hour, and minute. He or she is and will also be using clocks and number lines to fine elapsed time. At home, ask your child what time it is right now. Repeat this throughout the day for various events such as time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You may also want to have your child decide on the events he or she will tell time for. A second activity to do at home is to ask your child what time it will be in 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and one hour from the given time. for example, you may tell your child that the family needs to be at the park in 45 minutes from the time you tell them. Then ask your child what time it will be. Thanks for your help and support!

This week in science we started our unit on geology which we’re calling “The Birth of Rocks.” We learned about volcanoes and where they exist in the world. Below I’ve included a link to some amazing pictures of active volcanoes. Show these to your child; it’s guaranteed to be a conversation starter about what they learned!

Mr. G arranged for us to all participate in "World Running Day" on June 1. We will be walking/running for about 20 minutes. Please make sure your child wears comfortable clothes and gym shoes.
