Our Newsletter is covering two weeks of school, due to the November schedule! Remember we have half days and conferences November 3rd, 5th, 10th and 11th.
The Caldecott WEB Project is due November 14th. Any questions? Email me!
Our day of outdoor learning at Camp Creek Run was amazing! We were Junior Scientists that got to write in nature journals that we made, create a craft from a ruler, take a forest walk and learn about all types of animals (and meet some live ones!).
Literacy
The week of November 3rd, we will take a benchmark test to assess all we have learned in Unit 1 of Journeys. We will do projects and reread stories from this unit on communities. Students will take their Week 5 Spelling test on Wednesday November 5th. We will not get new words until November 11th because we are not beginning a new Journeys lesson this week. I will meet with readers in conferences and small groups to assess reading and set goals.
Then we will begin Unit 2 and explore the theme Nature Watch. We’ll learn about different kinds of plants, animals, gardens, and weather while considering the Big Idea “Nature can teach us many things. We will begin by exploring the question “How can chapter headings help you?” We’ll read an informational text called Animals Building Homes that tells about different types of animal homes around the world. Then we’ll have fun with the play Hiding at the Pond. What animals might have a home in a pond?
