Carman Paw Print

May 22, 2022

Important Upcoming Dates

Dear Carman Families,

Just a reminder to please be sure to send your child to school every day with a water bottle (preferably with their name on it) as we will be having outdoor recess and PE daily (the heat index is always taken into consideration).

Please be sure to check the calendar at the end of the Paw Print for all of our upcoming events, including No School on Monday, May 30th.

We will participate in 10K Pencils again this year. Please look for the information on how to give your child permission to participate as well as how this service learning opportunity supports others.

Do you have a student who will turn 5 years old before Aug. 1, 2022? Kindergarten Registration is OPEN and online! Just go to https://www.parkwayschools.net/Page/1950 to register! If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Regan at 314-415-6104. Families are encouraged to register early for staffing and planning purposes. You can also visit https://www.smore.com/u9caf which includes information on registration, a recording of Wonderful World of Kindergarten and an interactive google classroom that has tons of stories and information on how to best prepare for kindergarten.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM NURSE CONNELLY

Dear Carman Parents/Guardians -

School Health Services protocol requires that all medication housed in the school health office must be picked up by parents or guardians on or before the last day of school, June 2nd. In order to ensure the safe return of medication to parents, no medication will be sent home with students in backpacks on the bus/school transportation. Please fill out the form below to schedule a pickup time for the medication.

If your student will be attending summer school, please indicate on the form if you would like the medication transferred to the summer school location or if the medication will be picked up from school. All medication authorization forms and action plans from the 21-22 school year can be used for summer school.

PTO Project Vote Needed

Carman Trails Parents,

We are very excited to share the opportunity for you to vote on two more capital improvement projects! Thanks to our amazing community of parents and staff, we have surpassed our fundraising goals for this year.

In addition to the funds set aside for next year's operating budget, we have approximately $15,000 left to spend on improvement projects. Please review the two proposed projects and submit your vote. We are able to provide BOTH of these projects with our surplus funds this year! If approved, the new sound system will be installed over the summer. Also if approved, the teachers will be able to purchase items for their classrooms over the summer to be used in the fall.

View the projects and VOTE HERE.

Voting will close on Monday, May 23rd at 4:00 p.m.

(Per our by-laws, "There shall be no more than the budgeted operating expenses in

the account for the following year unless it is for a predetermined capital project or goal as set by the PTO Executive Board." (Article XI; Section 1)).

Update: We have not forgotten about the outdoor classroom! The shade sail has been slightly delayed due to the rainy spring. However, they will begin excavation in the next couple of weeks. The tables we purchased have been delivered to Parkway and are ready to be installed. We are sure you will see the new outdoor classroom popping up as you drive by Carman Trails this summer!

Thank you for your support this year!

PTO Executive Board

Meal changes coming soon

Parents,

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Parkway has provided free meals for all students through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which was extended multiple times by Congress.

That funding is now set to expire, which means free meals will no longer be available to all Parkway students once the current school year ends.

Students who may be eligible for free/reduced meals may apply for school year 22-23 starting July 1, 2022. Paper applications will be available through the Parkway Welcome Center office or your building secretary. However, we encourage you to apply online at https://s.smore.com/e/2dcy1/_Lh0kV
