CTE TEACHERS PILOT C-PENS
The McKinley Career Tech teachers are piloting C-Pens in their programs.
Rachael Knisely, Job Training Coordinator, and Erin Ponn, Instructional Coach, started the roll out for staff last week with trainings on both campuses.
“We were looking for innovative technology to help struggling readers, students with special needs, and those learning English as their second language,” said Knisely. “(The C-Pen) is ideal for use with technical manuals that the students use on their jobs and is a nice supplement to the iPad which can translate text as well. This pen fits in their pocket and they can take it to the work site.”
C-Pen Readers can read and translate printed text into Spanish and French. Students will be able to use it to listen to pronunciations of words and learn definitions. The C-Pen is also a great tool for with reading difficulties such as dyslexia.
The student simply passes the pen across a word and it instantly displays the definition and reads it aloud. In addition, it works as a scanner for capturing lines of text and uploading to a PC or Mac, making it ideal for students, teachers and professionals to capture essential information.
“We are excited for our students to learn this new technology that will enhance their education and further their opportunities in their career paths,” Knisely said.
