Currituck Sound
The Currituck sound is a protected inlet of the Atlantic ocean located in the northeastern part of North Carolina and extreme southeastern part of Virginia.
Estuaries are important because they provide vital goods and services that are economically and ecologically indispensable. They also provide important nesting and feeding habitats for many aquatic plants and animals
Some animals found around the Currituck sound are ducks, fish, crabs, alligators, and snake. Some plants are cattail, flowering dogwood, giant cane, pinewood, and poison ivy.
Waterways that connect to the sound are Pasquotank river, Alligator river and Yeopim river.
Threats to the Currituck sound is that natural connections are happening between the sound and the ocean through inlets which are changing the salinity and water quality. This is making animals and wildlife die to the changes and the marshes are also getting destroyed.
