Veterans Day at The Ranch

We are already planning for our Veteran's Day Celebration in November and need your help! Look for info in the attachment below, to include your loved one(s) in our slideshow. If you have any questions, email mary.baney@misd.org

RSVP for Veteran Guests

If you have a Veteran Guest (family member, friend, neighbor, etc.) and you would like for your student to sit with them for the ceremony, please click HERE to RSVP for this purpose. Often students forget and with so many visitors, we want to try and help make sure all guests get to sit with their Mustang :)

HONOR

The character trait that we are focusing on this month is HONOR. We are teaching our students that honor means “letting someone know that you see how valuable they really are”. Reinforce this character trait at home by asking your students to think of the people in their life who are valuable to them and how they can show them honor. You can also read some books from the list below that focuses on honor and valuing others.

More Magic From the MRE Library!

October here in the MRE library was SO. MUCH. FUN. And we definitely went out with a bang with the awesome storybook pumpkins on display! To say I was impressed would be an understatement. Thank you to everyone who participated; these pumpkins have spread lots of fall cheer around MRE.

In addition to enjoying fall themed activities, students learned all about Hispanic Heritage month! We read books written by Latin-American authors and learned about some of their home countries. We researched buildings and landmarks within those countries, and reconstructed them using the STEM method and various (fun) materials! Students really enjoyed the building process, as well as learning about Latin American countries around the world!

Coding is cool!!

Coding is Cool! Mustangs have enjoyed coding with Botley in E-Lab. Botley is a very user-friendly remote controlled robot great for all ages. Our 5th, 4th and 3rd graders created challenges using command cards and the robot. Once finished, they were displayed for PreK, Kinder, 1st and 2nd graders to enter the sequence of commands and reveal the challenge. Some revealed shapes, letters and even dances!

The latest from the gym

Howdy from the Gym! Loving this (sometimes) cooler weather! Speaking of cooler weather, the next part of PE I would like to introduce is:

OOPS! I Forgot My Shoes Station

With the cooler weather on its way in, please keep in mind that wearing proper shoes in PE will significantly reduce injuries that could occur in a movement based class. Please also remember that girls should wear shorts or leggings under dresses/skirts on PE days!

Students may wear any rubber soled shoe that has a back and stays put on the feet.

The following types of shoes are not appropriate for PE:

Cowboy boots, UGGs, rain boots etc, sandals, flip flops, backless shoes, crocs or high heels. Cowboy boots have too high a heel and are often slippery, UGG type boots, rain boots and boots that do not lace up do not provide enough ankle support for pivoting and quick stops.

If your child comes to PE without proper shoes, they will have an alternative PE workout/assignment called the OOPS! I Forgot My Shoes! workout and a reminder note will be sent home.

This assignment is designed to keep the student moving in a manner fitting the shoes they wore to PE that day!

We have talked to the students about planning ahead and packing a pair of tennis shoes in their backpacks to change in to.

Orbit In The House!

Friday was loud & crazy as Orbit from the Houston Astros was here! We hope our amazing kiddos cheered him up on the heels of that game 7 loss! These are just a few pics from an incredible afternoon! Orbit talked to our students about making SMART choices and always asking for help when you aren't sure! THANK YOU TO OUR INCREDIBLE PTO for approving and booking this special guest last year. We appreciate you!
