The Search Begins
At a work session, we make no votes nor commitments to anything. The board discussed many things, whether to share again, and whether they need to hire a search firm, plus making a timeline for this work. As a targeted date for conclusion of the process, they are looking at end of February or early March to make an offer to the desired candidate.
Between now and then their work will be to identify the characteristics and skills that they want/need in their next hire. For that, they will be working on surveys to get opinions from patrons, staff and students. Throughout December there will be multiple opportunities to fill out a survey or give an opinion to your elected officials on the board. If you are interested in joining this work, there will be plenty of opportunities including some form of public involvement in the interview process. The board wants and needs input from all groups, so be looking for these surveys and possible ways to get involved from December to February.

Aside from high school and middle school boys and girls basketball, wrestling, cheerleading and the numerous concerts will be happening this winter, we also have a bowling team that will be in action, Pee Wee wrestling, jazz contests, speech contests, both large and small group, and the drill team has a winter show. No reason to be bored all winter, just keep track of that link to all the activities for NFV students, they would love your attendance and support at any of these events.

Leader In Me - Habit #3 Put First Things First
I work a lot. If I'm not at school I have emails on my computer, iPad and cell phone. Luckily, my kids are grown, so those big rocks don't need as much attention as they used to, but many of those emails are little rocks, and when I'm looking at them in my recliner at night, I'm not communicating with my wife. Which do you think is the bigger rock? If we have important things to get done, we need to tend to them first, then we can enjoy the ballgame, a little rock.
Allowing those little rocks to distract and burn up your energy and time without knowing it means you are neglecting the relationships that you need to nurture. You have big rocks and little rocks at work too. Right now, it's to create a workable budget for FY21. Thats a big rock, but maybe not so big that I can't listen to an employee with a problem. Also a big rock. Little rocks are plentiful, the emails, the ball games, etc, and can distract us for hours. At home and at work, attend to the big things first, have the willpower to say no to the little rocks.
