Summary
Annemarie Johansen a ten year old and her best friend Ellen Rosen often think about life before the war. Their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages , and the Nazi soldiers marching in their town
Plot
The Nazi's won't stop. The Jews of Denmark are being "relocated" , so Ellen moves in with the "Johansens" and pretends to be part of the family. Annemarie's family helps Ellen and her family take them to Sweden where they will be free.
Annemarie Johansen (Main Character)
She's brave , smart & outgoing. All her life she was surrounded by Nazi Soldiers and she lived in Copenhagen.
Ellen Rosen (Annemarie's Best friend)
She was Annemarie's best friend and she had dark hair. She was really quiet and jewish but because she was a jew she lives in Nazi danger.
Mrs. Johansen (Annemarie's mother)
Annemarie's mother. She's kind & brave and lifts the spirits of children even in tough times

Setting
This a photograph of Copenhagen today. Annemarie lived in Copenhagen with her family. Ellen and her family lived in the same apartment building.
Conflict (MAN VS SOCIETY)
