All the scoop for the Mission Marlins Swim Team -CHAMPS WEEK
Coach's Corner
It’s Championships’ week! Here we are…the end of another AMAZING swim season. I hope each of you experienced all that this league is about: great competition, relationship building, fitness, and fun! Champs always bring about a week of excitement. As we face off with all the other teams, I hope each of you feels a sense of accomplishment this week. If you try your best this week, you will have succeeded! Let’s go after best times this week and let the other teams see the fruit of your hard work. Swim fast, Mission!
Speaking of Championships, here is a look at the week ahead:
Monday, July 17th: Intersquad meet
* On Monday, instead of regular practices, we will hold our meet that was supposed to take place last Thursday. Warm ups are at 8 AM and the meet will start at 8:30 AM. We will not swim the 200 free, 400 free, or relays. The meet should be over by 10:30 AM.
* All 10 and under swimmers from red, orange, white, and yellow teams will practice from 11-11:45 AM. We realize that some schedules do not allow the flexibility this day is demanding. Please know we are completely understanding if your swimmer cannot attend Monday's events.
* There is no green team practice on Monday, July 17th.
Tuesday, July 18th is Novice Championships. This is open to all 14 and younger Novice swimmers.
* Please arrive at 6:45 AM. Warm ups start at 7 AM. The meet starts at 8:30 AM at Mission Pool.
Wednesday, July 19th: Level II swimmers will have practice! Blue and red team level II swimmers will practice from 8-10 AM. Orange, white, and yellow level II swimmers will practice from 9-10 AM.
Thursday, July 20th is Level II/A Championships. This is open to all swimmers of all ages who have achieved at least one Level II time.
* Please arrive at 6:45 AM. Warm ups start at 7 AM. The meet starts at 8:30 AM at Mission Pool.
If you’ve been keeping track of your swimmer’s times, you might’ve noticed a NOV or II next to their name. NOV indicates that a Novice qualifying time has been achieved in that particular event. This qualifies that swimmer for Novice Championships. If no novice times have been achieved, swimmers 14 and younger are still eligible to participate in Novice Championships! “II” indicates that a Level II time has been achieved and that swimmer is eligible to participate in Level II Championships. 15-18 year olds are automatically a part of Level II Champs. It is very important that you communicate to the coaches as soon as possible if you are unable to attend Championships. Every swimmer matters!
**Swimmers must have participated in at least TWO regular dual meets to be eligible to participate in Championships!**
Who Participates in Championships?
NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP ELIGIBILITY:
Swimmers 15 and older are considered Level II swimmers. They only participate in Level II Championships.
Swimmers who have achieved a Level II in every event will only swim in Level II Championships.
The swimmers' events for Novice Championships will be posted on Monday, July 17th and were already sent out via text. Please see a coach if you have questions about your swimmer's eligibility.
Novice Championship events were finalized Friday, July 14th. Level II/A Championship events are finalized Wednesday, July 19th.
LEVEL II CHAMPIONSHIP ELIGIBILITY:
All swimmers 15 and older are automatically considered level II swimmers. 15 and older swimmers ONLY swim in Level II Championships.
All other swimmers must achieve at least one level II time to swim on Thursday, July 20th. Level II times achieved at Novice Championships DO count toward Level II Championships.
CHAMPIONSHIP THEME
This year's theme is: REVENGE OF THE NERDS
Bust out those pocket protectors, plaid shorts and suspenders and get ready to rock the pool....nerd style!
WHAT TO BRING TO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Bring a small cooler with healthy food to snack on like fruit, vegetables, crackers, WATER, juice, or Gatorade. You may want to bring some games to play between events. Make sure you don’t bring games that can be easily broken or lost. This is probably not a good place for electronics because of the potential for loss and breakage. Bring those items at your own risk. Cards and other small games are fine. Sleeping bags are softer to sit on and be sure to bring several towels and SUNSCREEN. Tent Moms and Dads- don’t forget your lawn chairs. IN CASE OF RAIN…bring a plastic bag to put your stuff in to keep it dry.
RULES OF CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Make sure you are wearing a suit that does not have another team’s logo on it.
- Make sure that you are wearing a swim cap that either represents the Marlins, or is plain. You can not wear a cap with another team’s logo on it.
- You MUST be at Championships ON TIME! The coaches are required to turn in scratches 30 minutes prior to the start of each session. If you are not there on time, you will be scratched from your events. Once a scratch is done, it is final. Please, please, please arrive on time!
- Please do not leave the meet early without checking with the coaches.
VOLUNTEERING AT CHAMPIONSHIPS
There is one comprehensive Sign Up for each meet for all the MOKAN Swim League’s team’s parents to use. The links are below.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. Under each position, we have listed how many people from each team we need. Please only sign up for a position that still needs someone from your team. To help others know what team you are with, it is important that all volunteers write the name of their team in the “comment” section that appears when you sign up.
2. NEW THIS YEAR: The Tuesday/NOVICE meet has all ages combined into one meet instead of holding a separate 10 and under meet in the morning and 11 and up in the afternoon. This year all ages are together.
3. Finally, please make sure you check-in with the Volunteer Coordinators at the time indicated on each sign up. This is important as it helps the meet coordinators know if we have all the volunteers that are needed.
