Fall MAP Testing

On September 22nd and 23rd, your child will take a MAP Growth test. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. MAP Growth tests are unique and adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students' needs then plan instruction accordingly. MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject, and have the same starting performance level. This school year, your student will take the test three times a year in the fall, winter, and spring.


We appreciate your help in making this a positive and successful experience for your student. A few suggestions to help your student:

1. Make sure your student gets a good night of sleep prior to the test date.

2. Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast at home and/or takes advantage of the school's free breakfast.

3. Make sure your student arrives at school on time. We test in the morning on these dates.

4. Gently encourage your student to do their best. While we all want our student to do their best, we also want the students to not feel excess stress or anxiety.

Music Changes

All music change requests must be made by Sunday, September 26th. Please email your child's counselor requesting the music class to drop and the music class that you would like to add. After 9/26, students will be committed to their music choice.

Final Forms - please check and update your information

Please check and update your student information on Final Forms.


As in the past, we need ALL parents or guardians to log into Final Forms and update any necessary changes for our 2021 - 2022 school year ASAP. That way, any potential issues/problems/questions can be addressed before our return to school at the end of August. Some forms require a student signature. The Covid-19 Parent Agreement must be signed before the school year begins. You are required to sign the forms at the beginning of each new school year. A signature is also required after any update or as additional forms are added.


Please be sure to go to the "Transportation Information" section in Final Forms. Here you may give permission to those who may pick up your child from school, and designate emergency contacts. Please be sure to "check" all those who will be able to pick up your child from school. Thank you.

Student Picture Packets

Student Picture Packets that were ordered through Lifetouch were distributed to homerooms today for your child to bring home. (If the picture packet doesn't come home today, it will on Monday.)


If your child had their picture taken on "Get Connected Day" but you did not order photos, you may now order them online. Inside the packet you have received is a flyer with ordering information. It will instruct you to go to "mylifetouch.com", then enter your "Portrait ID" code and your "Access Code" that are indicated on the flyer.


There will be a Picture Re-take day on Monday, September 27th in the morning. If you want to have your child's photo re-taken , please have your child bring the picture packet with him/her on the 27th and give to the photographer. If your child did not have his/her picture taken on August 16th, please make sure your child has their picture taken on the 27th.

Attention Registered Nurses

The Sycamore Community School District is currently looking for registered nurses who would like to be employed as substitute nurses. Applicants must have current nursing experience, preferably with children, special needs, diabetes and an active nursing license.

From Our School Nurse

Medication

If your child takes medication at school, please complete the medication order form and return to Laurie Dobrowolski, the school nurse. This form must be completed for daily medications, over the counter and emergency medications needed at school. Students are not allowed to

transport their own medication to school.


Immunizations

Homeroom Parent Signup Form

Being a Homeroom Parent is a great way to support your child’s homeroom teacher and help them pull together celebrations or other social events. Bring your unique planning skills and personality to the role


Please note that with pandemic safety precautions at Greene School, parents will not be permitted to help in the building, but teachers will appreciate your help brainstorming fun activities and purchasing, preparing and dropping off materials for classroom events.

PTOs to host Candidates Forum

The PTOs of Sycamore Community Schools are hosting a forum for candidates for the Board of Education on Wednesday, September 29 at 7pm at Maple Dale Elementary School. We want your input on the questions to ask the candidates. Please share your questions here. There will be a limited number of tickets available to attend in person.
