Hudson Hawk Band Updates

Week of 12/6/21

Band Hoodie Design Contest

Students who wish to help design the next Hudson Band hoodie can submit designs through Friday, December 10th. They can draw on paper, design on a website, etc. Students may choose to come up with a design on their own or with a buddy. The design must include "Hudson Band", hawk/music things, and be school colors (red, black, white, or gray). We will create a form to vote on the top 3 favorite designs and the design with the most votes will be printed and sold to any student who wishes to purchase a hoodie. The student(s) who come up with the winning design will get their hoodie for free. More details about timeline and prices for ordering will be available after the final design has been chosen.

Sachse Christmas Parade - WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8

Our band has been invited to participate in the Sachse Christmas Parade this year. This is not required and no transportation will be provided. This event is open to ALL Hudson Band students (6th-8th grade). Students who want to participate will meet at Sachse HS (and gather behind the SHS band) at 5:30pm. Students will wear their Hudson Band t-shirt, jeans/pants, and festive accessories. Please bring a bag of candy to toss to the parade spectators.

The parade will begin at Sachse HS at 6:00pm. The parade route travels down Miles Rd. and ends at City Hall. After the parade, we will walk back to Sachse HS and parents can pick students up there at 6:45pm. If your student wants to participate in the other activities at City Hall, they will have to be taken back by their parents after getting picked up from Sachse HS. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED AT CITY HALL - THEY MUST WALK BACK TO SACHSE HS AT THE END OF THE PARADE TO BE PICKED UP.

All 3 Advanced Bands will perform on this concert. It is a required performance and 2 test grades will be given - one for the performance aspect and one for their audience etiquette as they will be required to stay for the whole concert and watch the other bands' performances.

Please read this detailed information sheet for information about the dress code and arrival times. All students received this information prior to leaving for Thanksgiving break.

What Should We Be Practicing?

Practicing should happen daily to help build coordination and muscle memory and retain progress. Students should practice sitting in a real chair (preferably one that doesn't roll/spin), using a music stand, with a metronome. Please make sure woodwind players are properly swabbing out their instrument at the end of every practice session to keep their instruments clean!

ALL Hawk Band Updates

Are You Handy? Like to Build Things?

I have grand visions of organizing our percussion storage room over the next few weeks because it's too small and we have too much equipment. If you happen to be handy and want to help build shelves for our cymbals, drum pads, and drum stands, please let me know! This picture is similar to what I have in mind.

Instrument Usage Fees in Skyward

If your student plays a school-owned instrument (oboe, bassoon, tenor/bari sax, French horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, and select others), their district school-owned instrument usage fee is reflected in their Skyward account now. These directions to submit an online payment in Skyward should help you with completing that payment. Please let Mrs. Becker know if you have questions.
