Don't Miss the January Panther Table Talk!

Panther Table Talks (formerly known as Family Crew) starts this month! The goals of Panther Table Talks are to create a stronger community among TCS@ODU staff and families, provide an open space for students and families to voice their opinions with integrity, and offer extended support and resources for our TCS@ODU families. We are hoping to bring together the TCS@ODU community to socialize and have honest conversations in a nonacademic setting.

Our first meeting will be on Zoom on Thursday, January 27th from 7:00-7:45pm. Please contact your student's crew teacher or a dean if you have any questions.

OLEPA Testing in February and March

English Learner students at The Charles School will take state English language proficiency testing in February and March. English Learners (we prefer "Emergent Multilingual/Emergent Bilingual students") take the required state OELPA test every spring. Families of students who will test should receive letters through the mail with more information soon. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Chris Spackman, the ESOL Coordinator, at spackman.1@thecharlesschool.org

Technology Class Updates

Information Technology - Students have been learning about networking. We took a walk around the school, looked at the schools new wiring, servers, access points, and learned the difference between area networks. Next chapter we're making a light up birthday card.

Web Design - Students in Web Design have created multi file websites. They are learning to edit web pages combining style sets to edit an entire website with one set of commands.

Programming - We are reviewing variable types and working with our putt putt golf course programming spheros.

The Skills USA Club made gifts for the deans to give to teachers. Each student worked really hard to make sure our orders were consistent, met the design needs and expectations of the deans, and were high quality work!! We are so proud of all their hard work. It brings us to 30 hours of combined work experience and community service per student.

Cultural Studies Class Celebrates Three Kings Day

In Hispanic traditions, the Three Kings bring gifts and wealth to children and families. One tradition is the roscón de Reyes, or Kings’ Cake. The round cake is topped with dried fruits to represent jewels that adored the King’s crown. Students picked a slice in hopes of finding the small baby Jesus inside their piece, which means good luck for the next year!
