Community Update
May 25, 2022
We are all deeply saddened by the tragedy in Texas. This news is devastating, heartbreaking, and disturbing. We all must do our part to advocate for gun safety to protect our children and our community. Vista Unified has just recently led all administrators through emergency procedures, including active shooter training. Every school has a detailed active shooter protocol to follow in the event of a disturbance. Gun violence has become a national epidemic, and it will require all of our efforts to stop the violence.
As a community member, you have a role. If you see something odd or out of the normal, say something to a school official or law enforcement or use the PSST anonymous reporting number to report suspicious activity. Our team is in constant contact with the City Manager, the sheriff’s department, and the fire department so that our efforts are coordinated. Our collective vigilance can and will keep our community safe.
Tonight, we are hosting the first of many Gun Safety Community Forums at 5:30 p.m. (see below for details). Please join us in a community-wide effort to eliminate gun violence.
Our district uses an anonymous reporting tool called PSST World. Using PSST World, students and families can anonymously report any range of concerning behaviors and incidents that they have seen, heard, or experienced. When a report is made, a message is immediately sent to the VUSD safety team and forwarded to site administrators for follow up. Every school’s website has a link to PSST World, including our district’s main page.
Sincerely,
Matt Doyle, Ed.D.
