In the Classroom!
Welcome and Goodbye: Goodbye to our friends Gabby, Kole, and Cru. They are moving to the Jr. Scouts class. Also, hello to our new assistant director Ms. Katie.
- Please bring in sunscreen to reapply throughout the day.
- Please bring your child already wearing it. The best time for the Smalls to enjoy the outside, is morning, and this will allow more time for outside adventures.
Sensory, Art, Science:
Being in the breeze, and touching the grass, and picking up a rock will be upcoming adventures for the Smalls. We will drive some cars through the sand and salt, and have a car wash. We will continue to let our babies play with their food!
Math:
There is always opportunities to use math in everything we do. We count our toys, toes, fingers, snack. Getting those fingers moving with crayons last month was great! We will continue this practice, and get those lines and circle. We will be able to explore outside chalk also.
Dramatic Play:
As the big kids anticipate meal times, we use this opportunity to pretend and prepare the food with the kids. We will mix and pour and serve up our food.
Social-Emotional:
We like to talk to the babies as soon as possible on things that we know they will be practicing soon. We will also continue to work on our sign language. We have been trying to set boundaries, and use consistency in rules. The word "no" is being used in order for the babies to understand wrong choices. If this is a concern, or you would rather your child not have this reinforcement, please address it with us.
Gross Motor: Pushing physically abilities is challenging and rewarding. We will use our muscles and energy to stay active.
Zoophonics:
We use the tone of our voice to emphasize the letter sounds. There are links attached below where you can check out more about Zoophonics.
· Remind Me App: It's a free app that we're using to for simple reminders like show and share, friend of the week, physical due dates, etc. Our class code is 26kh9g

The 21-Day Happiness Challenge: Five Ways to Be More Positive
The point is that many of us are always chasing success without pausing to actually celebrate the success we’ve achieved so far. Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage, has studied and written about this extensively.
In one of the most popular TED Talks — “The Happy Secret to Better Work” — Shawn puts it like this:
If we can bring more positivity into this present moment, though, our brain experiences what Shawn calls a “happiness advantage,” based on the finding that “your brain at positive performs significantly better than it does at negative, neutral or stressed.”
So how can you bring more positivity into this present moment? Training.
Shawn developed what he calls the “21-Day Challenge,” in which you pick one of five researched habits and try it out for 21 days in a row to create a positive habit. Doing so actually rewires — or trains — your brain to be more positive.
Here are the five habits to choose from:
- Three Gratitudes: Pause to take note of three new things each day that you are grateful for. Doing so will help your brain start to retrain its pattern of scanning the world, looking not just for the negative inputs but for the positive ones.
- Journaling: Similar to the gratitude practice, but in this case, detail — in writing — one positive experience each day. This will help you find meaning in the activities of the day, rather than just noticing the task itself.
- Exercise: Exercising for 10 minutes a day not only brings physical benefits, but it also teaches your brain to believe your behavior matters, which then carries (positively) into other activities throughout the day.
- Meditation: Take just two minutes per day to simply breathe and focus on your breath going in and out. Doing so will train your mind to focus, reduce stress, and help you be more present in this moment.
- Random Acts of Kindness: This can be something simple, and Shawn suggests writing one positive email to praise or thank someone each day. Not only does it benefit the recipient, but it also increases your feeling of social support.

Editorial Reviews
The drive toward independence is very strong yet, unpredictable. He is always in motion and not easily restrained, directed or controlled, but he needs to be! Boundaries will be tested, rules understood as suggestions, and curiosity will become a force to reckon with. How will a parent meet the unfolding challenges? The answer begins with understanding the various growth transitions of the one-hundred and eighty days linking babyhood with toddlerhood.

Is there ever a time when you say to youreself, " I wonder if The Tot Spot would want this"?
We could use it in so many ways. You may have babies, but the whole school is yours. Everything can turn into a sensory activity or learning experience. So, before you throw out your junk, ask your teacher if it could be used.
