Monday Mission Memo
August 27, 2018
Interim Superintendent's Message
Greetings Catholic School Leaders,
It is the time of our highest hopes with the greatest potential of the school year before us. I hope you saw my brief memo on responding to the concerns of our parents during these challenging times for the institutional Church. With stories in the news, concerns of safety are likely already on the minds of parents everywhere; we have an opportunity to be part of the conversation. You, together with your pastors, boards, or religious communities know best what your stakeholders need and how to reach them.
Also, please ensure your calendars are marked for the February 12 Ensuring Human Dignity Conference. We would like representation from all of our schools: principals and, where applicable, presidents, and leaders of counseling, campus ministry, theology or other relevant areas of school leadership. While there are some limits to capacity, we wish to involve as many leaders in ministry throughout the Church of Cleveland as possible. The day promises to be a valuable step in understanding the challenges present in our culture and appropriate pastoral responses from the ministries of our Church. Detailed agenda and a formal invitation with registration will follow soon.
Read on for information about a new training to support the AVS as well as helpful tips, information, and reminders.
And please remember to complete the 5th day enrollment by this Friday (even if it is not quite your 5th day). This estimate is very valuable to the projections we need to serve our schools.
Yours in Christ,
Frank
New Training for OCSAA AVS
We have OCSAA Annual Verification of Standards. The process is similar to years past, but the stakes are higher, with fines instituted this year of $1.75 fine per student for schools with any violations.
This optional, but recommended, meeting is intended for all those who are responsible for inputting and/or reviewing data into the AVS system and will be held on Sept. 19th at St. Albert the Great School from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Registration is available on the Digital Academy.
OCSAA External Validation Training - All Schools
Continuous improvement is at the heart of organizational leadership. To build familiarity with the OCSAA improvement process as well as meet the needs of our own schools, Catholic schools throughout Ohio are expecting every elementary and high school to send at least one administrator or teacher leader to the EVT Training, for all chairpersons as well as potential team members.
Two trainings will be offered in our diocese:
1) St. Hilary School on Friday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.- 2:45 p.m., and
2) St. Christopher School on Monday, Oct. 1 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Please register for this training on the Digital Academy.
Serving on an OCSAA External Validation Team is a wonderful professional opportunity to collaborate with and learn from fellow leaders in a different school setting. Also, the math is simple: every time a school has an EVT, we need at least 3 local members (sometimes more) to serve on the validation team. With every school going through the process every 6 years, we require a robust pool of qualified team members to avoid overburdening the same people. New attendees will not be asked to chair in their first year, but may be called upon to serve on a team.

Credential Reminders
From Missy Hokanson
License, Permits, Certificates: I currently have 145 pending requests for approval with ODE. It is imperative that the Credential Request Form come to my attention so that I can approve. With most schools already in session, this number is a bit concerning, so please verify with your staff that they have sent this form to my office along with any appropriate fee payable to OCFE. Thank you! mhokanson@dioceseofcleveland.org
