Year 6 Exhibition 2015
May 2015
Through their actions people can empower others to make a positive difference
Message from Brenda
Huge congratulations to our Year 6 students who demonstrated their passion, knowledge, depth of understanding and their proactive approach to making a difference through their exhibition work. The exhibition is a culmination of 8 weeks of learning where they have inquired deeply into an area of their choice.
This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate their learning throughout primary school and the staff were incredibly impressed with the collaborative group work, the depth of their study, the way they worked through the inquiry process and the action they planned and implemented to make a difference.
Fantastic effort Year 6!
Nia Sexton and Mary Rutkowski (the Year 6 teachers), adopted a new model for the exhibition this year. Their focus was to ensure the exhibition was child-centred, driven by children and supported by teachers, but not teacher or parent dominated. Teachers and staff knew when to give input and direction and when to back off and leave the students to find out things on their own. This was managed superbly and the process created energy, drive, focus and creative learning that was deep and meaningful.
Congratulations to the core team who worked so closely with the students: Mrs Sexton, Mrs Rutkowski, Mr Buckley, Mrs Oliver, Mrs Harding, Mrs Tan and Mrs Dipa. Thank you to Mrs Matthews for creating their flash mob dance with them, Mrs Strohschein who helped motivate and inspire their Chinese art pieces and Mr Benzie for the musical items. Thanks to the other staff and parents who also assisted in different ways. This was a great collaborative effort!
The entire audience was in awe of the way the Year 6 students could articulate their learning with such confidence, skill and enthusiasm. There is no doubt that the Year 6 students have learnt so much from this experience and we are all so very proud of them.
Final words from our school Council Chair – Ms Judy Vas
“ Just want to say congrats on such a great display last night where the children showcased what they learnt. What I saw was the flourishing of promising young people given the best environment to grow into the best they can be as a person and as a member of society. Well done!”
