Photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
Carbon dioxide + water + light energy yields glucose + oxygen
A process in plants which uses sunlight to make food from carbon dioxide and water. Chlorophyll is involved in the process as well. The light from the sun is absorbed into the leaves and reacts with carbon dioxide and water to make food for the plant. Plants need this process to make food for themselves and provides us with oxygen to survive.
Aerobic Cellular Respiration
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O + heat
glucose + oxygen yields carbon dioxide + water + heat
Anaerobic Respiration
C6H12O6 = 2C3H6O3 + E
Glucose yields lactic acid + energy
Hydrocarbon Combustion
Hydrocarbon + oxygen yields carbon dioxide + water
A reaction between a gas and an oxidant that produces carbon dioxide and water. It is often hot enough that a glow or flame could be produced. An example of this reaction would be a camp fire. This reaction is important because it produces fire. Fire is very essential for cooking, heat, and light.
Rusting of Iron
iron + oxygen + water = iron III hydroxide
When iron or steel rust, they come in contact with water and oxygen. Acid rain and salt water makes metals rust faster. Some metals, like aluminum, don't rust easy because the surface is protected by aluminum oxide. When iron rusts, it shows when it needs to be replaced.
Synthesis of Sulfuric Acid
oleum + water = sulfuric acid
This reaction makes a very dangerous chemical. The reaction is highly exothermic and should always be performed by adding acid to water rather than vice versa. Drops of sulfuric acid can decompose things by dehydration. It is used to make hundreds of compounds.
