McKinley Mindset- Staff Edition
Staff Weekly Updates 11/12/18
Mindset Monday
Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed the first snowfall this weekend! We are well on our way to the holidays! We have a busy week ahead with conferences, Triple P Parenting, Community Connect and Veteran's Day! I encourage you to consider attending Triple P or Community Connect!! Parents love to see our staff in participation at these activities!
The McKinley PTO meeting was great last Thursday! They have agreed to support us by providing funding for our PBIS movie incentive! We also had a great discussion on how we might celebrate our new IB World School Status.
The PBiS Regional Coaches meeting was held at McKinley on Thursday. They were all very complimentary of our PBiS efforts and also our new IB Authorization!! The students and staff represented our school very well.
I will be meeting with Lake Erie College on 11/20. They are interested in working with McKinley as a Labsite for one of their education classes so that their students can observe inquiry-based instruction in the classroom! I will let you know when we have more information.
Parent Report Card Meeting- The parent report card meeting during conferences went very well. Mrs. Rowan and I got great feedback from several parents regarding transitioning to a standards based report card! They are very supportive of the changes. The parents were also very complimentary of the way teachers are already making efforts to communicate the student outcomes from the Units of Inquiry!
I have applied for a grant through the Alliance for Working Together for Computer Science Integration. This would allow us to purchase 6 Lego Mindstorms Coding Kits. Fingers crossed for a funded project!!
Student November Gratitude Challenge!!
Lesson Plans
Starting in November I will begin collecting weekly lesson plans. Please have your lesson plans for the week turned into me by MONDAY morning starting November 5th. You can submit them to me digitally via email or share them with me on Google Docs.
Lesson plan due dates for November are as follows:
Nov 12
Nov 19
Nov 26
The purpose of this is to ensure that our lesson planning reflects the important components of International Baccalaureate, continues to grow our inquiry-based approach and to better understand how each grade level is planning for student success.
Action
We will be able to provide 10 meals to families in need this year in conjunction with Feeding Fairport's Hungry!!! Also, we have a family that is going through a difficult time and is in need of Christmas Gifts.... We will be taking a collection at the office. If you are able to donate, your support would be greatly appreciated!! Mrs. P has a list of kid's sizes and toys they are requesting at the office. Please stop and see me for details!!
