Writing Small Group Based on Conventions and Writing Behaviors
Small group writing can be simplified and tailored to what we see with their writing so far. We have been led to use the rubric for elaboration and craft but, it left opportunities open to cover the basics in our students’ writing.
Here are some examples of some bite size focuses for our early writers.
- I can leave spaces between the words.
- I can use capital letters and full stops.
- I can sound out words that I don't know to help me write them.
- I can correctly spell sight words.
- I can write a sentence below my picture.
- I can write more than one sentence.
- I can add detail to my sentence by using adjectives.
Writing Small Group Based On the Content of the Writing Piece
Notice how she demonstrated the expectation.
Notice how the students practiced within their own writing.
Notice how she leaned in and coached students.
Notice how the small group was brought to a close.
Notice the overall timing for the strategy group.
