LCMS Weekly Updates

By Tami Gunset

WOW! I can't believe it's already December, where has this semester gone? I hope that each of you had a blessed Thanksgiving and are enjoying getting ready for Christmas. This time of year is really busy, so please make sure that you are encouraging your child to stay on top of grades and deadlines. It is helpful for parents to stay in communication with their child's teachers.

Progress Reports should have come home this past week. We currently have TEN DAYS left in the Fall Semester. It is very important that students utilize our morning and afternoon Homework Helpers. The Week of December 7-10 will be the last week of Homework Helpers. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The LCMS PTO is very excited to announce their newest fundraising event:

Duct Tape the Principal to the Wall

LCMS staff, students, and parents will have the opportunity to duct tape the amazing LCMS Principal, Mrs. Gunset, to a wall of the school. The PTO will be selling duct tape in one-yard strips for $1 each starting the week of December 14. Staff, students, and parents will have the opportunity to place the duct tape strip on the Principal. We hope that enough duct tape strips will be placed on the Principal so that she will be suspended above the ground on a wall of the school. The PTO’s goal is to raise $1,200.00 to purchase Christmas Day Meals for families in need at LCMS.

Basketball Clinic

Make plans to attend our LAST ACE after-school basketball clinic which will work on skills and fundamentals. This clinic is open to any LCMS student free of charge.

  • Thursday, December 10 - 5:30-7pm

This event is parent drop-off and pick up, as we cannot have students waiting around unsupervised.

Nurses Educating on Illegal Drugs & Synthetics (NEIDS)

Lubbock-Cooper is proud to host University Medical Center’s Nurses Educating on Illegal Drugs & Synthetics (NEIDS) in order to educate our community about the dangers of synthetic marijuana and other illegal drugs. NEIDS is an outreach group of registered nurses that believes synthetic marijuana and other illegal drugs kill and harm too many, especially teenagers who do not understand the dangers of these types of drugs. Middle school students will receive this presentation Friday, December 18 from 9:00am-12:00pm.

Parents we really need help at the basketball concession stand. If we do not have enough to help then we will have to close the concession stand. Please be willing to help for an hour. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for any help, it is truly appreciated.

Mrs Baird's Teachers On The Rise

As we mentioned above, there's no better way for students to thank their teacher this Thanksgiving than to nominate their teachers. Our nomination portal will remain open during the Thanksgiving break. Please encourage students to nomination their teachers while they are enjoying their break! We will be presenting our November winners in early December.

Remember, we have three winners every month during the school year and we would love to visit your school to honor one of your great teachers. Please help us spread the word about the Teacher On The Rise program and encourage students to enter their teachers every month. Teachers On The Rise winners receive great prizes including a $100 United Supermarkets Shopping Spree, a $100 VISA card from Mrs Baird's, and a great prize from the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. To encourage students to enter their teachers, we give each student who nominates a winning teacher a $50 VISA card!

LCMS National Juniors Honor Society

NJHS students volunteered at the Lubbock Dream Center this past week, sorting clothing, cleaning up the playground, and organizing the food pantry. What a great opportunity for the Pirates to serve the community. We are very proud of our sponsors and the students for their hard work and dedication.

LCMS Student Council

A little chill in the air didn't stop these Pirates from volunteering to ring the bells for The Salvation Army over the Thanksgiving break. So proud of our StuCo group and its sponsors for all their hard work and dedication to serve others.
