Cloud Computing
Impact on individuals & time & place & role in the world
What is Cloud Computing?
We use the white puffy things in the sky like and analogy of the internet cloud. They are always within our reach, because you may use it in many places or devices. For example gmail drive; you can edit it from any device you want and will be saved at the cloud.

Magellan's team concluded that the cloud model is well suited to certain types of scientific applications but can't outperform HPC systems for most national lab requirements. Magellan is one of the world's most-powerful private clouds.
2. Since cloud computing is beginning to spread, more criminal activity is taking place. Therefore, making it harder for law enforcement to track down the bad guys. The research is being done by National Drug Law Enforcement Research Fund, which will examine both public and private cloud models. If someone were to save something from their laptop onto the cloud, the law enforcement agencies will be looking for remnants on the machine or the phone that was once used to send the stuff to the cloud.
3. Recently last summer, BitTorrent released a personal-cloud software called Sync. "2013 was the year that everyone became aware of what a server was," BitTorrent CEO Eric Klinker says. "With Sync, if anybody wants to know what you're doing, they can't go and ask one of the big servers. They have to hand the warrant to you." This means that people are starting to run their own personal clouds from an old computer sitting under a desk somewhere at home. It has been made more user friendly to where it only takes up 15 minutes to set up and to invite friends in. It has no data limits, allowing users to move 40 times more data over it than people sync on Dropbox. The set backs, however, is if your DSL gets disconnected from a storm, or a house fire occurs, making your cloud service go away. This software is allowing people to take back control of their own personal lives, allowing them to save personal documents and discussions to their cloud only, so no one else can access them.
4. Cisco announced it would spend $1 billion on a kind of “cloud of clouds” project. Later in the week it was part of a consortium of big multinationals that will set engineering standards for wiring people, machines and computers together in large industrial settings. Other big corporations such as office for microsoft in which our school (WPHS) buys to use.
5.nInformatica is an international journal with its base in Europe that publishes peer-reviewed papers from all areas of computer science, informatics and cognitive sciences, with a focus on intelligent systems and software in general. The latest release of its Informatica Cloud – marketed seasonally as Cloud Spring 2014 – has delivered new self-service tooling and user interface enhancements, aimed at business users that are intended to remove much of the complexity and burden of cloud and on-premise data integration.
The main design theme for Cloud Spring 2014 is making business application users and administrators more self-sufficient in servicing their data integration needs. A brand new Cloud Designer tool enables IT and business users to collaborate to create and execute custom integration jobs by using preconfigured templates, visual drag-and-drop palettes, and point-and-click wizards.
Cloud Designer effectively replicates the advanced mappings and transformation capabilities in Informatica’s classic on-premise PowerCenter Visual Designer tool. But it also introduces some differentiated tooling, notably “parameterized templates.” These allow IT developers to build and configure advanced transformations, mapping, and workflow logic into reusable templates that comprise variable data joins, filter conditions, field mapping, source, and target connection values, which line-of-business application users can access, configure, and populate according to their own customized integration schemes.
Cloud Computing saves lots of money to companies because instead for paying to install and update softwares, install and manage email servers, run backups. With cloud computing all of the business of maintaining the service is the responsibility of the cloud vendor, not you.For example, at a company, as the owner, your responsibilities include making sure very student and teacher have the right software and hardware, for giving them this access buying computers isn't enough, you have to acquire software. Instead of installing many softwares, you can just install one, that is for everyone, That applications will allow employees in a web based service which hosts programs every user can use.Cloud computing may make integration easier because cloud computing applications often contain Application Programming Interface you may be able to find compatible apps rather than having to pay for customized apps. Also Cloud computing applications are regularly updated which saves you money and time. And last Cloud computing allows you and your employees easy access to applications and dat from different computers and devices.
The benefits at the medical field
"The healthcare industry is beginning to adopt cloud computing and doctors are even able to use mobile devices to access information and records to make decisions anywhere and at any time. It can also help to reduce operational costs for medical practices and make it easier to manage and share patient data."
Doctors can look up an access medical records in a database, so they don't have to find any papers with information, and a patient wouldn't have to remember their medical information, so they'll look at it in the cloud.Cloud computing has been used since the 90´s and will be embraced more and more. Maybe in the future, people will discover other ways to utilize it, and cloud computing will become the standard form of computer memory.
The benefits of schools using Cloud Computing
Many schools across the Unites States have turned to Cloud Computing since many are now requiring students to have computers. Teachers have felt so far that Cloud Computing has helped students and other teachers not loosing their work and backing up their files. The cloud automatically saves content, therefore if the computer ever crashes the files will be saved and accessible from any computer. The Cloud can be used from any IPad, computer,E book, etc. Cloud Computing allows multiple people edit a document/presentation at once for group projects. The documents can be shared as well. Many teachers found it useful that they can post homework assignments on the cloud. After the homework passes its due date, teachers are allowed to see how much progress the students have made and comment on their work.
Facts:
- 30.2% of computing workloads are expected to use a public cloud in 2018
- 27% of businesses worldwide use clouds for email
- About 545 cloud services are used by an organization
- In 2012, 38% of Businesses adapted to using clouds
