News of the Kindergarten Stars
Mrs. Darr's Class November 14, 2014
This is such a wonderful time of year to be thankful for all of our blessings! Be sure to love up on your little one each and every day! I know I do! Thank you for the opportunity to get to know and teach your child!
Our Learning Day!
Reading
Love is what makes a family. That is what we have discovered through the stories we have been reading in together.
Our concept focus has been retelling the beginning, middle, and end of the stories. When reading at home, talk with your child about some of the events that happened to the characters in the stories. Your child should be able to tell one thing that happened from the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
Daniel is busy picking his "just right" books for the week!
Check out these little readers at Guided Reading!
Writing
We have discovered that we are not just authors and illustrators of teaching books, but we can be authors and illustrators of true stories. Have your child tell about the story they have been writing!
Math
It is one thing to be able to identify a number but to tell what it is made up of is another. We are discovering what teen numbers are made up of. Have your child use objects at home or even food to show you how to make the number 12. Be sure your child groups the objects into tens and some more ones. Then have your child count the objects by ones. Your child may even show you another "smart" way to count the teen number. Branch out and make more teen numbers with your child!
Using a number track to identify the teen number.
Charlie and Jaxon are busy recording their teen number.
We know that a teen number starts with a one. Ask your child what the one means.
Kayla and Rileigh are discovering about teen numbers by building them.
Happy Veteran's Day to all your family and friends who have kept us free and safe over the years!
I hope your child has come home this week telling you about what we have learned about Veterans. Have your child show you the proper way to salute! Ask your child to tell some words to describe a Veteran/soldier. A soldier is...
We are proud of our soldiers!
We salute them!
Any future soldiers here?
Monday, November 17
We are looking forward to you coming in to see us learn! You may join us from 8:30-9:30 and 12:30-1:30 on Monday.
Bundle up! Cold Weather is Upon Us!
Please be sure your child is wearing a heavy coat, hat, and gloves each day. We go outside if the temperature feels 40 degrees or warmer. Also, we need to know how to put on our own coats, hats, and gloves. Work with your child on zipping his or her heavy coat. This is a great skill to know.
Have a fun-filled weekend with your family!
