News from Music
News from MUSIC
Kindergarten is busy learning the songs for their program. We are moving, telling stories and singing about the alphabet, the days of the week and our loose teeth!
1st grade did a super job on their performance! Now we are back to singing, playing instruments and finding new ways to move!
2nd grade is reading music notation using half notes and do, singing, moving and playing accompaniments.
3rd grade is practicing both following and being a conductor. We are working on some new rhythms and telling stories using percussion.
4th grade is learning how to read music notation and to play what they read on the recorder. We can now read and play some songs we could only sing before.
5th grade has been working on listening for musical patterns, playing instruments, and improvising rhythms.
News from PE
5th graders were given a challenge to design and create games using hula hoops, cones, poly spots, bean bag toss, giant cup stacks, and golf equipment. Their objective was design a game they could teach to the lower grades. And they did!! It was a huge success. It was very impressive to see the positive interaction among the different grade levels.
AM Movers and Mid -Day Movers are going strong. First and Fifth graders start their day for 10 minutes to get their bodies and brains ready for the day. In the middle of the day Kindergarten and 4th take a few minutes out of their schedule to get some movement in also. They run laps, play a quick game, or partner exercise.
3rd grade has been very involved in learning the techniques of long jump rope. They are perfecting partner jumping, running in and out of the rope, jumping on 1 foot and touching the ground.
To 5th grade parents, From AMS
Dear AMS Parents and Students,
The mission and vision of AMS is to provide students with learning opportunities which support students to become strong readers, strong writers, strong independent thinkers, and lifelong learners. It is our hope our students are growing and learning over the summer months, and for this reason, we promote reading throughout the summer.
Reading in the summer is an important activity for your child’s intellectual growth and development. It encourages students to continue learning while still providing them with fun and enjoyment. What helps make reading entertaining for children is allowing them the freedom to choose books that speak to their unique interests.
AMS is asking for each child to read at least one book over the summer prior to our return in August. In an effort to promote student choice in reading and focus on the act of reading, we will no longer require students to create a product to demonstrate their participation or comprehension of a summer reading book. Instead, AMS students will participate in a celebration of literacy in their RELA class. It is our hope to build a community of AMS readers who enthusiastically share what they have read with their classmates, peers, and AMS staff.
Your parental support in promoting literacy skills is especially critical during the middle school years. On the reverse side of this letter, you will find information about summer reading for AMS students. Additional information can also be found on our school library website. We hope that you and your child have a wonderful time enjoying many great reads this summer! If you have any questions, please contact dawn.hindberg@humbleisd.net
Thank you,
Ms. Dawn Hindberg

● You are encouraged, with parent permission, to share your reading on social media using the hashtag
#AtascaTigersRead
SEPTEMBER 2019
● Celebrate and share your reading during your RELA class Literacy Celebration Day. On that day, you will participate in activities to share what you have read with your RELA teacher and classmates.

Important Campus Procedures
- Safety: Due to new security measures, we will need to have everyone entering campus to have their ID. Please be patient as we work through the new system.
- Early Check-Outs: To reduce the number of disruptions during the end of the day as teachers are ending lessons, providing instructions for homework, and preparing for dismissal we ask that you not check your student out after 3:00 PM. Thank you!
- Attendance Reminder: When your child(ren) are absent from school, you must call the absence hotline at (281)641-2019, for each day absent and send a note to school the next day when they return to school. If the school does not receive a phone call or note from a guardian, the absence is considered unexcused.
- Dismissal: Grades K-2 and their older siblings are back car riders. Grades 3-5 students without younger siblings are front car riders.
Birthday Treats: Parents may purchase a frozen birthday treat for their child’s class during their lunch time. Frozen treats may be purchased from the cafeteria for 75 cents each to be distributed after the children finish their lunch. Please notify the cafeteria at (281) 641-2008 one week prior to the event in order to have enough treats on hand for all interested.
If parents wish to bring cupcakes to school, they may do so. However, please ensure that the treats are store bought as well as notify the teacher two days in advance so that the teacher has ample time to contact the parents of those with allergies arranging for an alternate treat. Parents may drop off the treats at the front office so that birthdays may be celebrated the final 20 minutes of the school day.
As a reminder of district policy, students are not permitted to pass out party invitations at school.
