Mrs. Monahan's Class with some Exciting Science!
We did hands-on science to learn about plant and animal life cycles and adaptations.
We made lima bean seed necklaces so we could watch a plant life cycle. Once our Lima beans sprouted, we planted them to take home. Each student also got a mealworm as a temporary class pet to observe. We excitedly watched our mealworm larvae turn into pupae and predicted when our insects would complete their metamorphosis into darkling beetles. To better understand animal adaptations, we played the part of a bird and experimented with different tools to understand why bird beaks are adapted differently depending on what they eat! Students “caught” fish (Swedish fish) out of water, nectar (water in a graduated cylinder), and dug bugs (raisins) and m&ms (nuts) from dirt (bread crumbs).
Technology Requirements for Next year 🎧
All students grade K- 4th grade are required to have working headphones in school. Now that all students have devices, the students use them daily in the classroom. They also need them for testing and in Technology class. As the year has progressed, fewer and fewer students have working headphones.
We discourage the sharing of headphones since they lend to disease transfer.
Next year there will not be school headphones available for them to use.
Grades K-2 should have over the head devices, where Grades 3 & 4 can have earbuds. They can not be bluetooth, since the desktops do not support that.
I would suggest purchasing very moderate/ inexpensive priced headphones, not expensive ones, since they get lost easily. Please put their names on them so if they are misplaced, they can be returned.
