The Manning Weekly Newsletter
October 4, 2019
Dear Families,
It's officially Fall! I had to haul out my heavy coat to greet kids in the morning in front of the building and supervise recess. It feels bitter sweet to wave goodbye to summer weather!
I wanted to begin by sharing some important details about our upcoming Fall Parent Teacher Conferences.
On Wednesday, October 16 from 4-5:30 and on Thursday, October 17 from 6-7:30, we will have scheduled appointments with the families our teachers have requested to speak with. If you are one of these families, you will receive an email from me in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 9 with a link to sign up for an appointment with the teacher(s) who have requested to speak with you during conferences. In other words, if we don't reach out to you to schedule a conference during these windows, these conference times are not for you.
On Oct 16 from 5:30-7:30 and Oct. 17 from 4-6, all other families who do not have scheduled conferences with specific teachers are welcome at whatever time during these windows that is convenient for them.
All conferences with teachers will be in their classrooms.
We had a significant number of parents last year express frustration about how long they had to wait for conferences, so you will notice some of our teachers implementing the following procedures.
They may set a timer for 7 minutes and remind you that this is the time limit. Please understand that this open-house style parent-teacher conference is not the appropriate time or setting to have extended conversations with your student's teachers. If you would like the opportunity to discuss something with them at length, you are welcome to reach out to your counselor (Last names A-K, Kelsey.Gaines@jeffco.k12.co.us/Last Names L-Z Guy.Gordon@jeffco.k12.co.us) to schedule an appointment with the teacher(s) you'd like to meet with.
Some teachers may open their classroom to all families who are waiting for a conference instead of having you wait in the hall. When the line is in the hallway, teachers cannot see that someone is waiting for them. If you need to discuss something with teachers that requires more privacy, reach out to your counselor (Last names A-K, Kelsey.Gaines@jeffco.k12.co.us/Last Names L-Z Guy.Gordon@jeffco.k12.co.us) to schedule an appointment with the teacher(s) you'd like to meet with.
Teachers want your kids to attend! it is important that they are a part of your conversation about their learning, especially as they make this important transition from elementary to secondary school.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Thanks, as always, for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.

A message from our PTA!
Fall Fundraising: In order to keep things as simple as possible for our families, the Manning PTA encourages each family to donate $100 each fall to help us support the programs and staff at Manning. To make a secure donation of any size online, please visit manningpta.org/donate/. We are so grateful for your support- thank you!
You can also support the PTA by linking your King Soopers card to the Manning PTA. Every time you make a purchase, King Soopers will contribute to the Manning PTA. See manningpta.org/king-soopers-community-rewards for more information.
The Manning PTA spends about $150 per student each year, so you get a great return on your investment. Here are just a few of the things the PTA has provided in the last year:
- Enrichment for classroom programs at each grade, including programs at Outdoor Lab, guest speakers and artists, field trips to see plays at the Arvada Center, etc.
- Funding for additional programs such as Battle of the Books, Math Counts, Reflections, and Robotics.
- Instruments for the music department.
- Interactive TVs for our classrooms
- Staff appreciation
The Fall Fest Chili Cookoff and Silent Auction is on Friday, November 1! This year Fall Fest will be held at the Applewood Golf Course Clubhouse. We would love to have your help- by attending the event, bringing your best chili, giving us creative ideas for the Silent Auction, sponsoring the evening, or helping with set up/ clean up. Tickets at Early Bird Pricing are available now HERE. Prices will increase October 15th. We hope you will join us!
REFLECTIONS 2019-20 – “LOOK WITHIN”
Does your child have an interest in writing, producing films, or taking photos? Or do they enjoy drawing, painting, writing your own music, or choreographing dance? Then join us and have fun unleashing their inner artist with the PTA Reflections contest! The competition starts within our own school, and then they have the chance to compete against other students in the district, state and nationally.
This year’s theme, “Look Within,” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Categories include Visual Arts, Photography, Music Composition, Film Production, Dance Choreography and Literature.
Students can pick up entry forms and rules from the Manning front office starting Monday, September 16. You can also visit the Manning PTA Website for more information, and/or download official program rules, submission guidelines, and entry forms on the Jeffco PTA website (http://www.jcpta.org/programs/reflections/reflections-students/).
Final deadline for Manning School entries is Wednesday, October 23. Manning Reflections representatives will be at the front of the school in the morning and afternoon of October 23 to accept student entries. Judging will take place the following week, with winners exhibited at the Manning Fall Fest – Chili Cook-off & Silent Auction on Friday, November 1.

HONESTY
Blake Hoffer had an issue in class, but the way he admitted it and took ownership of his mistake demonstrated a lot of courage and honesty.
Lily Johnson was honest that she needed some help with some of the questions on her research guide.
EFFORT
Mrs. Mendez always helps students reach there fullest potential and creates a fun space to learn in!
Stella Meyer always stays up as late as needed to do her homework and even does her math a day in advance.
Zennyth Gray always checks in with me, makes me laugh, supports me, and is all in all an amazing friend! Thank you Zennyth!
The Brazil Ameritowne group in Mr. Johnson's Class tried very hard to make a profit and have a successful business.
RESPECT
Julia Metzger is very kind and respectful. She always thinks about others before herself. She is always willing to help, and she is always looking for a chance to do something good.
Mrs Burg is always smiling and energetic and it makes my day to see her.
Anna Drogsvold is always checking in with me and is always being so kind. Thank you, Anna, for being an amazing best friend!
Mrs. Burg is always respectful to her students. She always encourages kids to work hard and try their best. Thanks Mrs. Burg!
Mrs. Ritschard is a great teacher. She always makes sure to call on different people and not just the same person every time. If she calls on a student who is not sure or struggling she does not make them feel bad about it and instead of calling on someone else she helps them through the equation.
I saw Jacob Skwarek give money to a homeless man after school--what a kind and thoughtful gesture!
Kash was being nice to me and when I was playing he said good game after.
Drew Miller is a great friend and is super nice to me and he deserves the respect reward
TEAMWORK
Bella Kim and Gunnar Tande are good friends and are good to have a laugh around.
When her class was behind on a lesson and we were cutting it close at the end of the period, Gracee Feicht showed TEAMWORK by giving me little signals of how much time was left so we could get to the end of the lesson with good timing.
At International Towne, Gavin King was Singapore's President. I was in Singapore, and I saw how hard he worked to keep us (his employees) on task, and he is just a good person in general. Great job Gavin!
Gavin Cryans was the Employee Of The Day from Singapore for International Towne. He is always trying to work hard and gives his 110%. He is just a good person overall. Great Job Gavin!
Avery Bard is always sitting with me when no one wants to sit with me, and she can always put a smile on anyone's face when they are down.
Kate Robinson was helping me during science when I did not understand some things.
