Math, Science, and Social Studies
Math-This week students will continue working on the decimal module. Students will compare decimals using comparison statements, order mixed numbers, make equivalent decimals and solve multi-step word problems involving addition of measurements in decimal form. Mrs. Brooks will be teaching this week and I will be observing.
Great math websites students can work on at home:
www.zearn.org (students know their login information and it's a class favorite)
www.frontrowed.com (Curtright: yq2jji and Foster: nacfwn)
www.sumdog.com (most students remember their logins from last year, but they can make their own account free of charge)
Students will be able to access Zearn and Front Row throughout the summer with their current logins. This will be great practice to keep up math skills through summer break.
Science-We will continue on with Harnessing the Wind unit. Students began this unit last week and were able to construct and investigate a dynamo torch based on the story The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. This week students will research how to make a windmill and work in groups to construct their own.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Reading--We will be reading like scientists this week. We will be doing a webquest and talking about Earth Day, climate, and energy sources. We will wrap up the week with a fun NEON reading.
Writing--In Writing, we will wrap up our Dreaming of 5th grade writing project. On Wednesday, we will begin our Author Fair project. Be looking for a letter with more information coming home on Wednesday!
