Project Anderson, Planting New Roots

Anderson-Shiro Senior, Alea Carrell, presented at the ASCISD October Board Meeting, where she explained her project, “Project Anderson, Planting New Roots.”

This past summer Alea Carrell was chosen to be a 2013-2014 Ford Leadership Scholar. Scholars chosen through this program of the Texas FFA Association, are asked to implement a community service project in their home town. Alea’s project is called Project Anderson, Planting New Roots. This is a beautification project of downtown Anderson. In conjunction with the Grimes County Master Gardeners, they executed the project October 12th, with a total of 18 Anderson students that are involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, and Anderson-Shiro FFA. They were able to dig out all the weeds in each flower bed to make room for an eco-friendly irrigation system donated by Mr. Marty Thomas and Mrs. Dorothy Holtkamp of White Hall Trees.

They are in the process of scheduling their next work day; it will consist of planting flowers and other shrubbery that is graciously donated by Martha's Bloomers. They hope to double the amount of volunteers and finish Project Anderson with a bang!

The objective of this project is to build greater and stronger community and school spirit. If anyone would like to volunteer or support this project, please contact Alea Carrell at aleamcarrell@aol.com.

Keally Kids Perform Random Acts of Kindness

As part of a service project during Red Ribbon Week, students from Mrs. Keally's 2nd grade class worked to perform Random Acts of Kindness, such as cleaning another teacher's classroom while while they were out. Students were so excited to do this for their friends. They are already planning their next idea. No one knows where they will strike next.
