8th Grade End-of-Year Activities

The 8th grade end-of-year activities and promotion ceremony are important events. These events are designed to honor all students, celebrate the year and acknowledge their accomplishments. To fully participate in all activities available to our 8th graders, students must meet minimum requirements. This resource outlines the minimum academic, behavior and citizenship requirements needed to participate in these activities. Eighth graders who cannot meet these minimum requirements risk losing the privilege of participating in one or more of the activities listed below.

ACTIVITIES & REQUIREMENTS

8th Grade Dance (June 5th, 1:45 – 3:30 p.m.)

Requirements for participation


  • Students must achieve 2.0 cumulative 8th grade GPA (grade point average) by May 29th
  • No suspensions during the second semester
  • Progress towards obligations
  • No more than one “U” (unsatisfactory citizenship grade) marked in the 4th quarter from two separate teachers
  • Minimum 20 community service hours completed by May 29th

8th Grade Beach Day (June 9th, 9 a.m.)

Requirements for participation


  • Students must achieve a 2.0 cumulative 8th grade GPA (grade point average) by May 29th
  • No suspensions during the second semester
  • Progress towards obligations
  • No more than one “U” (unsatisfactory citizenship grade) marked in the 4th quarter from two separate teachers
  • Minimum 20 community service hours completed by May 29th

8th Grade Promotion (June 10th, 9 a.m.)

Requirements for participation

  • Students must achieve a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative 8th grade GPA (grade point average)
  • No suspensions during the second semester (January 28th – June 10th)
  • Progress towards obligations
  • All 30 community service hours completed by promotion day, June 10th

How to calculate a cumulative GPA (grade point average)

A 2.0 cumulative 8th grade GPA is required for participation in activities listed above. Cumulative GPA is calculated by using quarter 2 (summative grades for quarter 1 and 2) and quarter 4 (summative grades for quarter 3 and 4).
