PRINCIPAL'S POINT
October is my favorite month of the year! This could be because my birthday falls in October, but it is not as exciting now that I am older. I think October is my favorite month because it is a time where there is lots of celebration with others. The weather is cooler and there is nothing better than sharing stories around a campfire. The weather is wonderful and I love the beautiful fall colors. Something about the month of October just gives you the feel of comfort.
Please enjoy the time with family and friends and take time to cherish yummy warm soups and chili, time around the bonfire, story telling and spooky stories, hayrides, and the joy of the cooler season.
I have such wonderful memories of this time of the year with my Grandpa Wilbur who loved time with family and friends at a bonfire with food and a hayride. This is an event that he hosted every year with my Grandma. These type of memories are what your children will cherish for ever! It is not the material things that mean the most, but the moments and fun that are shared.

St. Clair ROTC Presents 911 Ceremony to Middle School Students
St. Clair's Junior ROTC visited the middle school students on September 11 to present a remembrance ceremony for 911. The high school students played the National Anthem on trumpet. The ROTC Commander read about the events of September 11, 2001, mentioning the events, those killed and wounded at all sites. These students can't recall the day because they were very young or not yet born. That didn't stop the heartfelt respect showed to the memory of those lost during the tragedy. After the reading, a moment of silence was held, then TAPS was played on trumpet. The ROTC members ended the ceremony with the folding of the flag.
We are so grateful for the example these young adults set for our middle school students.
Happy Constitution Day
Lonedell students celebrated Constitution Day on September 17. Students and staff were encouraged to dress in Red White and Blue to show their patriotic spirit. During morning announcements, several 7th and 8th grade students led the entire school in reciting the Preamble as a group. "These kids have worked hard in years past to memorize the passage, and leading the entire student body can be nerve wracking! They did great," states Kathy Vollmer, who organizes this event each year. Just in case you've forgotten, the Preamble states:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Here are some interesting facts about our Constitution.
Of the spelling errors in the Constitution, "Pensylvania" above the signers' names is probably the most glaring. However, the state was often spelled with one N during those times. Did you know the Liberty Bell has the single N spelling?
The Constitution was placed with the Department of State in 1789 and stayed in its custody until 1921, when it was transferred to the Library of Congress. It was exhibited there from 1924 until 1954, when it came to the National Archives.
There is a fifth page not displayed at the National Archives. It is the Letter of Transmittal of the newly written Constitution to the Congress that existed under the Articles of Confederation. The letter, which briefly describes the Constitution, is signed by George Washington, president of the Constitutional Convention. It is dated September 17, 1787, the anniversary of which we celebrate each year as Constitution Day.

Volleyball Girls Take 2nd and 3rd at Lonedell Tournament
Lonedell held it's annual Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, September 6th and 7th. Lonedell hosted several teams including St. Gertrude, Spring Bluff, Richwoods, Borgia, and Our Lady of Lourdes. Our girls played very well for their first week of play and came out with A Team taking 2nd place and B Team taking 3rd place in their respective brackets. "The girls played really strong, and are coming together. I'm very proud of their hard work," stated Coach Paul Brake.
The play will continue this week against Grandview on September 10 and IC on September 12.
Scenic Regional Bookmobile Thrills First Graders
Mrs. Generally's first grade students visited the Scenic Regional Library Bookmobile last week. They visit our school library frequently, but being able to go onto the bookmobile and see books they might not find in our library is a special treat. "My firsties get so excited when we get to visit the bookmobile. They love the idea of going onto a vehicle full of books," stated Mrs. Generally.
