Last...LANDING:
Our mentor sentence this week is from the book, When Jessie Came Across the Sea. "On a fine fall day they sailed past the Statue of Liberty. America!"
- Watch the read aloud of the mentor text and try to identify different ways the author used capitalization in this story.

Next...EXPLORE:
2. Think about the following questions as you read "The Night Shift":

-How many stages of sleep are there?
-How are people more likely to remember their dreams?
-What are some effects of not getting enough sleep?
Last...LANDING:
ELA Lesson 3
GOAL: I can develop a conclusion that states my points clearly in my persuasive writing.
First...LAUNCH:
- Watch the video below, "Why Do We Need Sleep?" below.
- You can use facts from the video to support your answer in your persuasive paragraph later. Just remember to cite it as one of your references in your writing!
Next...EXPLORE:
- Watch the video below, "Week 6- ELA Lesson 3." Review all the skills we've learned so far. We will focus on how to conclude our work for this week.
Last...LANDING:
- Using information from this week's videos and articles, write a persuasive paragraph to convince your parents or guardians on what time you should go to bed and wake up. Use information from these resources to support your opinion.
- Use your teacher's chosen platform to submit your work.
*Your teacher will be looking for you to try to use all skills we've acquired so far but will pay special attention to your conclusion. Remember from our video that a conclusion must:
- Restate hook
- Restate original opinion
- Restate reasons
Our conclusion should not just be our introduction copied again. Rather, it should be a way to wrap up the writing by reviewing what we've discussed to completely persuade our readers. If you need a reminder on how to do this rewatch, "Week 6- ELA Lesson 3" video above.
