Helping Hands

Thank you so much to all of you that were willing and able to contribute to our community outreach project - Helping Hands. Because of your extreme generosity, lots of students/families in our school will have a much better Christmas than they might have otherwise been able. So again, from the bottom of my heart, personally knowing most of these students/families, thank you.

Math and Science

This week in math we finished our study of long division and have moved on to fractions! From what I have gathered thus far this school year through Problem of the Day, this group of students came from third grade with a decent understanding of fractions - but as you know we will continue to build on this concept and take it a step (or two) further. PLEASE encourage your child to speak up daily if and when they do not understand, so I can jump in and clarify any misconceptions at that moment (at this point in the school year, your children are really good at advocating for themselves and letting me know when something I say doesn't make sense to them, but please continue to encourage this as fractions can be rather difficult).

This week in science we have concluded our study of magnets and electricity with an activity where students tested objects from our test object bag to determine whether they were insulators or conductors in our circuits. We also spent some time discussing the prevalence of electricity in our society with an article entitled: Wired World which was a nice culminating activity for our unit.

The Leader in Me

Having now successfully spent a week working with each habit individually, we are now proceeding to begin integrating all seven habits into our daily school lifestyle when and where appropriate. Congratulations to Draco last week as well as Riley L. and Aly this week for being recognized as our examples of leaders!
