Panther Updates
October 7-11
Principal's Message
In last week's Panther Updates, MTSS was defined as, "a framework for continuous school improvement." MTSS involves using coaching, collaboration, communication, tiered instruction, and data-based problem solving to improve our school.
This week, we will build on our MTSS work by beginning instructional rounds. Elena Aguilar defines instructional rounds as, "a process adapted from the medical rounds model that doctors use in hospitals. Instructional Rounds help educators look closely at what is happening in classrooms in a systematic, purposeful and focused way." Aguilar goes on to mention, "one of the most challenging aspects with Rounds is that the evidence must be observational and non-judgmental." The focus is really on what students are saying and doing. We have created 3 instructional rounds teams (ELA, Math, and Science) comprised of various staff members. Math and ELA Instructional teams will meet this week and visit classrooms with a focus on what students are learning and doing.

Announcements/Reminders
This month we collected books for The Wake Up and Read Book Drive. They donate 10 books to students who don't have books at home. That means, we were able to collect enough books to help 245 students in Wake County! Pleasant Union definitely did its part this September on working toward the global goal of Quality Education.

Boosterthon Information
This year’s main fundraiser is the Pleasant Union Panther Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on 10/10 (T1,2,3) & 10/22 (T4). Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Pleasant Union Panther Fun Run, which will happen on 10/17 (T3) & 10/28 (T1,2,4). This year our goal is to raise $30,000 for Technology, Cultural Arts Programs, Instructional Supplies, Family & Staff Events, and Scholarship Funds, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Mindspark: Wild West! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the Mindspark kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward Technology, Cultural Arts Programs, Instructional Supplies, Family & Staff Events, and Scholarship Funds and the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on funrun.com. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Pleasant Union Panther Fun Run. Thanks so much for your support!
Boosterthon Note from PTA sent on Friday through MemberHub:
Hi Teachers. The PTA will need to collect Boosterthon funds daily and wanted to know the best method. Is it best for us to come to your classrooms to collect or best if you put the funds in a designated BT envelope and put in the safe behind Becky. Just reply back with your preference and we will post the final decision.
Schedules
Veterans Day Concert
Veterans Day is a month away, and Pleasant Union always enjoys recognizing families and friends who have served in the Armed Forces. As well as two concerts of patriotic music, we do a wall in the lobby highlighting those people who are our heroes. If you have a special veteran in your life that you would like to recognize on this wall, please consider sending in a copy of a photo of this person. Please label the back of any photos so that they can be returned.
For more details about the concerts, please check out Ms. Freer’s Google site on the Pleasant Union webpage.
Thanks for helping us honor our veterans!
