We thank you for your understanding!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Information regarding scheduling of conferences will be coming home with your child today, October 9. Please complete the form and return to school no later than Thursday, October 12 so that we may begin finalizing conferences times.
Please note that we will be working to coordinate conferences should you have multiple students to alleviate making multiple trips to the school.
Supplies for GI's
Our Student Council sponsored Supplies for GI's drive will run from Monday, October 23 - Friday, November 17.
Central @ Hayes will be working to collect items that will be added to care packages for our troops who are stationed around the world. We need every student’s help!
Below are the items we will collect:
K and 1st grade- chap stick, Slim Jims, toothpaste
2nd grade—canned fruit (small cans with pop tops), pudding cups, granola bars, tuna
3rd grade- shampoo, hair conditioner, stick deodorant, canned chicken
4th grade-canned soup (ready to microwave), microwave popcorn, Spam
5th grade-hand lotion body lotion, jerky, tooth brush
If you have the name of a soldier, friend, neighbor, or relative stationed away from him, we would like to have his/her name and address so we can send a care package.
Thank you for all of your help and support with this wonderful initiative.

A Note from Mrs. Birruete
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is with great pleasure to introduce myself as the new School Social Worker for Central/Hayes-Leonard Elementary School. My name is Vanessa Leal-Birruete (feel free to call me Mrs. B.), and I am honored to take on the role in collaborating with you, along with the staff at Central/Hayes, and your children!
I wanted to let parents and guardians know some of the ways that I can be helpful to you and your child(ren). As the school social worker, my role is to assist in facilitating increased communication between home and school, to counsel kids at school both individually and in groups, and to help parents with strategies that they can use at home with their child(ren). I am also available to provide outside resources for support to children and families (ie: referrals to things such as therapy and family services; financial/essential needs assistance programs, and other community resources). I am open to talking to any parent or guardian who may have questions or concerns. My phone number is (219) 531-3060 ext 2238 and my email address is vlealbirruete@valpo.k12.in.us.
Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything at all and hopefully I can be of assistance to you and your family! I look forward to meeting many of you and getting to know the Valparaiso community.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Leal-Birruete, MSW
