MEET AUSTIN - NEIHARDT'S NEW THERAPY DOG
My name is Lindsey Holes and I am one of the math and reading interventionists at Neihardt. I am excited to let you know that I will be bringing my dog, Austin, who is a licensed therapy dog to school for visits. Austin is a 9-year-old pointer/bulldog mix who was adopted from a pointer rescue group 8 years ago.
Austin and I have completed a Therapy dog training program through the National Organization called Love on a Leash this past summer. Therapy dogs can bring so much joy to students and staff in schools. Millard Public Schools has been very supportive of school therapy dogs and there are several within the district, and we are so lucky to have two of our very own at Neihardt.
Austin is a therapy dog, or even better-a school dog, not a service dog. Austin expects students to give him attention if they would like to! We are a certified therapy team. Research shows that a dog can be a calming influence, ease nervousness, and reduce stress. If your child has an allergy to dogs, please call the school office so we can make plans to keep everyone safe. If students with pet allergies choose to pet Austin, they are encouraged to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer right away.
I look forward to sharing Austin with the students, staff, and community of Neihardt Elementary School.
If you have any questions, contact me at 402-715-8360.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Holes
