How it caused the Civil War

  1. It was a set of five bills that was created to balance the spreading of slavery to keep the north and south balanced. The Fugitive Slave Act made any federal official who did not arrest a runaway slave liable to pay a fine. This was the part of the Compromise of 1850 that caused many abolitionists to increase their efforts against slavery.
