Read Across America Week To Be Celebrated at PLE
What better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday than reading to a child? Please plan to do some extra reading with your child all week next week. We will have our “10 Extra” reading challenge going on and our Read–a-Thon. Look for information coming home. Also in honor of Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we will be featuring a “Book of the Day” with a related spirit day. (Should we have a snow day, we will just skip that day.) We will be having a guest read the “Book of the Day” on our morning announcements each day. Go to the library and check out the books we are reading or other Dr. Seuss books. You can also watch the upload of our announcements and listen to the guest reader. Follow the link on our website under “Morning Announcements and other Video Clips”.

Read-a-Thon to Benefit Dolly Parton Imagination Libary
In conjunction with Read Across America Week, Park Layne Elementary students will be taking part in a Read-a-thon beginning on Monday, February 25 and running through March 11. We encourage students to log as many minutes as possible reading and to ask friends and family to sponsor their reading with a donation to United Way of Clark County through our read-a-thon. United Way of Clark County sponsors the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Clark County. Through this program every child in Clark County can receive a free book in the mail each month from birth to age five! This is a great program that we are so proud to help sponsor. All money raised through our read-a-thon will go to this amazing cause. If you know a child under the age of five who is not signed up for this program, please click this link to register.
Our top five readers and top five fundraisers will be recognized on the morning announcements and on our Facebook page and will get a special lunch with Mrs. Strader. All students raising money will also get to select prizes. The biggest winners will be the kids who get a free book in the mail each month and all of our students who do the extra reading! We are definitely growing readers at Park Layne Elementary!
We Need Your Help - If you are cleaning out, consider donating to Park Layne Elementary
- Extra Clothes for Kids Who Have Accidents at School. Sweatpants are best but any long pants - boys and girls - Sizes 4 - 10
- New Underwear and Socks in a variety of sizes for students who have accidents.
- Items for Dressing Kids for the 100th Day of School - We keep extra costumes for our Fall Parade so thought we could do the same for the 100th Day for kids who forget. If you have any of the following you could donate, that would be great; old eye glasses we can pop the lenses out of, costume jewelry like pearls, sweaters for girls, suspenders or ties for boys, etc.
