Our Protagonist - August Pullman
The protagonist in the fictional story Wonder is August Pullman. He is the leading or main character. All of the action centers around him. Even though the chapters of the story are told from different perspectives or points of view, all of them concentrate on Auggie.
August - the Caricature
The artist chooses to draw a caricature of August, for the cover of her book, because she wants her readers to use their imaginations as she describes his shocking facial disfigurement.
The Real August Pullman
The "real" August Pullman might look like. He is a boy of similar age (10 years) who also has Treacher-Collins Syndrome.
Hiding Behind The Mask
Our protagonist spent many months as a young child hiding behind his astronaut helmet. This "mask" made him feel normal. Later, we realize that the helmet didn't really provide any comfort because all of the neighborhood children knew who was wearing it.
