The Mustang Minute

Principal's Message

May is an incredibly busy month of the school year, including Prom, exams, extra-curricular activities and numerous banquets. One of the most bittersweet banquets each year is the GCISD Retiree Dinner. This dinner is sponsored by the GCISD Education Foundation and celebrates our teachers and staff who will be retiring at the end of the year. This year we honored four Grapevine High School teachers: Becky Palmer, Gail Groenman, James Faulkner and Heath Bullard. These teachers combined have served 107 years at GHS. It is amazing to think about the number of students that have been impacted by these four teachers during their years of service. Our best wishes for a happy retirement!

GHS Celebrations:

Hayden Murphy won the Regional championship in the boys 3200 meter event and Peyton Weissmann brought home the gold medal in boys pole vault with a jump of 14-9. Good luck to these two athletes in State competition.

Congratulations to Coach Heath Bullard (men's soccer) and Coach Steve McBride (women's soccer) both named Region 1 Coach of the Year. Also, congratulations to Coach Ray Bustillos who was named Region 1 Assistant Coach of the Year.

Counselors' Corner

ONLINE ARENA SCHEDULING: All online arena scheduling windows are closed. Counselors are in the process of reviewing conflict forms and all student schedules for the 2016-17 school year. Check Skyward for schedule updates. Thank you for your patience in this busy season as we prepare for graduation and ensure complete and accurate schedules for the next academic year. Adjustment Windows are as follows:

· Adjustment Window #1: 6/6 - 6/9 (1 online submission per student) Students with schedule errors or concerns may submit one change request form online through the GHS Counseling page.

· Adjustment Window #2: 8/1-8/4 (1 online submission per student) Students with schedule errors or concerns may submit one change request form online through the GHS Counseling page.

NO SCHEDULE CHANGES will be accepted after 8/4 to solidify class size and staffing for new student enrollment.

FINAL TRANSCRIPT FOR SENIORS: Students attending a college or university in the fall will need to request their final transcript to be sent to their school as a final step in the admission process.

In an effort to streamline the process for requesting official transcripts, Grapevine HS has partnered with Parchment to send high school transcripts electronically, securely and confidentially, to colleges and universities. During the electronic request, students will indicate that they want the transcript sent after finalization of grades. This is done by selecting "hold for grades."

Current students are able to request transcripts for free until August 1 of the year in which they graduate from high school. The cost for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD alumni is $5 per copy.

The transcript request through Parchment is accessible through the "Transcript Request Information" tab on the GHS Counseling webpage. Counselors will also be available on May 16th in the Lecture Hall during all lunches to assist seniors in requesting their final transcript.

UPDATE: Quartile cutoffs will be published for Seniors and Juniors. This information can be found on the counseling webpage along with the top 10% G.P.A. cutoffs.

SUMMER SCHOOL: Information is available on the GCISD website under summer programs. Students can access the course catalog and counselor form on the site.

2016-2017 DUAL STUDENTS: TSI testing is now complete. In the following weeks you will receive information regarding payment timelines and a date for a fall mandatory meeting.

SENIOR AWARDS CEREMONY: The annual Senior Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 26th, at 6:00 p.m. at GHS in Gym 1 to recognize all seniors being offered scholarships or awards. All students being recognized will be mailed an invitation prior to the ceremony.

Please contact your student's counselor if you have any questions.
