Peicai Pulse
From the Principal's Office (July 2016)
Connecting with Stakeholders
One of the big rocks mentioned in my first Principal's Message in March 2016 was to have a greater engagement with stakeholders i.e. parents, fellow educators etc. This regular bite-size news updates from the Principal's office is one such step in this direction.
In this inaugural and in subsequent editions of the Peicai Pulse, our students' involvement in aesthetics, physical, moral and cognitive domains as part of their holistic education in PCSS will be showcased.
In this edition, we would also like to honour our strategic partners who play an important role in enriching the lives and school experience of Peicaians.

Ignite Concert 2016
After many months of preparation, the biennial concert to celebrate our students talents in aesthetics finally took place on 8 July 2016 at the PLMGS Auditorium. A total of 133 students were involved in the concert, from the backstage crew to the stage performers and those in the creative parts of the planning such as design on the backdrop, scripts for the masters of ceremony etc. This constituted 20% of the student population of the school.
Besides the active involvement of 30 teachers, a few ex-students were also involved in the concert, with four of them playing critical roles in the production. The concert was a sold out success. We look forward to the next one in 2018.
An 'aMAZEing' Achievement
A group of Sec 4 Express students surprised even themselves when they outsmarted and outran their peers from 30 other secondary schools to emerge Champions in the Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Accounting Maze Challenge. Besides a trophy for the school, they also deservedly won $500 cash for themselves. We are proud of Chen Liling, Fong Lye Ka, Goh Li Ping, Janson Hong Nera and Tey Shou Ren for their fantastic achievement. Kudos also goes to the teacher-in-charge Mr Khairul Adli Rahmat for preparing, enabling and inspiring them to reach this potential.
National Schools Literature Festival (NSLF) 2016
PCSS has sent students to partake in this literature festival for the past 8 years. Our lower secondary students took part in the Book Parade where they displayed their literature projects. A team from Sec 4G pitted themselves against Queenstown Secondary in a Set Text Debate and came up on top. The judges praised the students for their deep analysis and for their cohesive and convincing arguments.
Racial Harmony Day (RHD) 2016
Students and staff came decked out in ethnic and traditional costumes on Tue 19 July to celebrate Racial Harmony Day. The main programme of the day was planned and implemented by Sec 3C, with the guidance from their Form Teachers and teachers from the NE Team. RHD 2016 is one of the four school-wide events in which students have a voice in the conceptualisation and implementation of the programme.
Sec 1 Charity Fair 2016
Concurrently with RHD 2016, the Sec 1 students were involved in a charity drive to raise funds for Peicaians who need financial assistance. Each class ran a food and games stall for the day while the school canteen vendors took a break. Under the guidance of their Form Teachers, the Sec 1 students drew up a business proposal and how they wanted to run their stalls on that day.
This carnival-like event was a part of the school's Learning for Life Programme (LLP) where students are given opportunities to contribute back to the community i.e. to their fellow peers in this case. A total of $2447.75 was raised! Thank You Sec 1 students.

Parents Support Group (PSG)
The Peicai Secondary School's PSG was in the thick of the action, setting up a game stall, a knick knack corner, a henna-painting service and a kacang putih booth. It was really heart-warming to see so many parents taking the morning off to join our students in raising funds for financial needy students.
