A Note from the Teacher
NO SCHOOL MONDAY!!!
- I did send home the spelling homework. It can be turned in anytime before Friday.
- If your child has his/her reading writing companion book home then please read the story for Monday night. If not you can get on Canvas, go to Wonders and find it there. If you can't do either I will remind your child to take it home Monday night and that can be his/her reading assignment for Tuesday.
- Math packets will be sent home on Tuesday.
- Congratulations to Maya Kendall!! She won the free throw contest for girls grades K and 1.
- Thanks for all the donations to Riley Hospital for Children. I hope the kids had fun with all the fun activities and dress-up days.
- Please remember to go over test packets with your child each week. Go over anything he/she missed. If I see a skill needs review your child will be put in a small group to work on that skill. It might help to do some review at home too.
Weekly Skills
Please look at the Focus Wall in your child's home folder for the skill we will be working on this week.
Assessments this Week Unit 3 Week 5
Reading Assessment on Friday: Starting with lesson 3.3 your child had to read the story on his/her own. I read all of the questions and choices for comprehension. Your child also read the high-frequency sentences on his/her own. This whole test goes with the phonics/high-frequency skill for the week and past skills. The PowerPoints are a great tool to practice the words.
- Sequencing
- oo, u Look for these PowerPoints
- inflectional endings -ed and ing
- High-frequency words in sentences.
Math skills being tested or that have been tested and will be rechecked.
- add and subtract 10
- I will be sending a math packet home with the homework for the week. You can do the homework whenever you want but PLEASE just send back in the homework that is due that day. Let's see how this works.

Math Fact Practice Tips:
- Practice nightly with your child. Right now we use the counting up or counting down strategy. I will be introducing touch math this week. This was included in your orientation material. As the facts get higher we will be using doubles to help figure out tougher problems. EX. If you know 7 + 7 = 14 then you also know what 7 + 8 would be 1 more (15). I will also be teaching the 9's by making a 10 by taking one from the lower number. Ex. 9 + 7 becomes easier when you think of 10 + 6.
- Please do not encourage the use of fingers.
- Please have your child practice one time over the weekend.
- There is a great app. called Math Drills you could try with your child.
- I included the link to math-drills below to print off practice sheets. We allow 5 seconds for each problem.
